We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Engineer on our Security Intelligence Big Data and Analytics team in the Application Networking and Security Business Unit.

A tightly knit and fast paced team, Security Intelligence develops a distributed analytics engine that gives customers real time, actionable insights into their Vsphere security deployments. Security Intelligence is focused on security, with Intrusion Detection, Distributed Firewall, recommendation, and network visualization being some core features.

The Security Intelligence team is growing fast and looking for engineers who share our passion for innovation in the fields of network security, distributed systems, machine learning, and big data visualization to name a few. You'll be working with technologies like Kubernetes, Kafka, Apache Druid, Redis, MinIO, Java Spring, Golang, and more to enable our customers to better protect their networks against threats, deliver granular network analytics, and gain datacenter–wide visibility.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

• You will contribute to key pieces of Security Intelligence, including but not limited to crisp network flow visualization, policy recommendation, network threat detection as per MITRE framework, metrics, and health analytics.

• You will analyze and improve performance, scalability, and stability of Security Intelligence when servicing multiple complex queries.

• You will collaborate effectively with other engineers and researchers to solve complex problems.

• You will work with a global team in different geographical locations and will have a unique opportunity to mentor and grow junior engineers while also developing your leadership skills.

• You will be successfully architecting highly scalable big data platforms within large complex systems to drive significant customer impact.

• You will be driven and passionate about understanding customer needs and crafting high quality solutions to meet those needs.

• You will be an integral part of our Security Intelligence leadership team and a thought leader within Broadcom and the industry.

The Work: What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

• Lead and drive engineering architecture in the ongoing evolution, growth, and transformation of Security Intelligence

• Be a hands-on architect who will design and develop software architecture for the current and future generation of Security Intelligence.

• Ensure high-quality software and high customer satisfaction.

• Lead and participate in design reviews to build highly scalable and a performant distributed system architecture.

• Deliver technical collateral including technical case studies, best practices guides, whitepapers, and solution reference architecture to drive adoption of VMware by Broadcom’s products.

• Be a respected leader in the company and industry. Establish a strong collaborative culture with peers and other functions within VMware by Broadcom. Promote a culture of success, pride, performance, discipline, and creativity.

• Be an effective spokesperson and champion for Security Intelligence while pushing the envelope in adopting new technologies and best design practices.

• Become a motivated product and industry influencer by maintaining deep technical and business knowledge of various market segments and of best-of-breed network virtualization strategies.

• Work with architects, product management, executives, and other stakeholders to define the technical roadmap for the product in response to customer requirements and market forces.

• You have a Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors and 5+ years of related experience or Masters degree and 3+ years of related experience or PhD and no experience

• Experience in developing distributed, multi-tier enterprise applications.

• Solid knowledge of OOP concepts, object/data modeling, and data structures.

• Deep working knowledge/expertise in Java.

• Background in Relational Databases and NOSQL Databases.

• Research, prototype, and implement complex architectures in large scaled distributed systems -performance, scale, software layering, maintainability, and future flexibility – with enterprise-grade capability.

• Performance Analysis and Optimization in Big Data processing.

• Golang experience.

• Experience with Spring and Spring Boot

• Exposure to firewall and end-point security concepts (nice-to-have).

• Exposure to virtualization technologies, centralized networking, SDN, and security management.
