Job Description:
The Marketing Senior Category Managerprovides strategic category leadership for key categories at Castrol and is accountable for end-to-end management of global categories.
They are responsible for fostering end to end category operational excellence through leading teams who manage supply chain risk and maximize value, including sustainability, within their category. They do this through extensive collaboration across and beyond procurement, including with regional and business resources. This ensures their category operates end to end with high effectiveness.
On top of that, this person will lead the global Marketing procurement category managing global spend of about USD400m, shaping strategy, driving commercial value, and partnering with business stakeholders to deliver competitive, innovative and compliant marketing sourcing and supplier‑management outcomes.
Develop and deploy the global marketing category strategy, covering areas such as brand, media, sponsorships, digital marketing, loyalty programmes, creative agencies, branded merchandise and market research.
Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy Leadership:
- Possesses commercial acumen and awareness of external market dynamics, providing strategic guidance and challenging the team to formulate innovative, value-driven strategies.
- Leverages methodologies, such as systems thinking, to extract incremental value.
- Ensures their strategy is aligned to business and regional needs.
Category Excellence
- Demonstrates data ledownership of the end-to-end performance of the category, working with stakeholders to develop category management plans that allow efficient end to end category management reflecting business / region specific context such as laws, tax, market conditions and local content.
- Cultivates purpose-driven partnerships and robust supplier relationships to navigate business challenges and unlock triple bottom line (people, profit & planet) value.
Transformational Leadership and Change Management:
- Oversees orchestration of change across a diverse stakeholder landscape.
- Leverages digital tools to drive innovation and value creation.
- Uses storytelling and strong communication to encourage adoption.
Team Leadership
- Builds category knowledge across the wider procurement organization to ensure strategy execution.
- Develops the team’s technical capabilities in order to deliver category operational excellence.
- Nurtures accelerator skills; curiosity in external markets, innovation and technological disruption, digital fluency, data-driven insights, and strong collaboration with both suppliers and stakeholders.
- Establishes an environment of psychological safety as a foundation for collaborative learning, ideation and innovation.
Supplier & Stakeholder Management:
- Skilled at leading and influencing through complexity and ambiguity, managing virtual relationships with stakeholders in multi-discipline, multi-cultural environments.
- Builds deep stakeholder relationships, bringing market insights and championing supplier value whilst taking time to understand business needs. Becomes a trusted advisor and critical partner to stakeholders.
Essential Experience, Job Requirements & Education
- Degree educated - something related to Business, Marketing, Procurement preferred - or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- 15 to 20 years of relevant work experience with strong people leadership experience.
- An understanding of how to ensure strategies flow through to execution in the businesses / assets.
- Significant experience in marketing procurement or commercial marketing roles.
- Experience in guiding global teams in strategic thinking to uncover insights, create value, and drive innovation.
- Strategic thinking with excellent commercial acumen.
- An understanding of working in and navigating complex multi-national businesses.
- The ability to evaluate innovative solutions and manage risk.
- Judgement in order to translate business requirements into a strategic category plan, leading the team to identify and leverage relevant data sources, utilize advanced data tools and platforms to access and analyze complex data sets.
- Critical thinking to make informed strategic decisions.
- Senior stakeholder networking and influencing skills to ensure buy in and adoption.
- Regular interaction with external suppliers and representing Castrol externally are expected.
- Effective change management is key to success, requiring exceptional influencing, engagement and storytelling abilities.
- Persevering through organizational complexity and resistance to change, key to leading transformational change.
