Job Description:

The SCADA Leak Detection & Operator Training Simulator (OTS) Specialist plays a meaningful role in ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant pipeline and facility operations. This position supports real‑time operational monitoring, leak detection troubleshooting, alarm management, and the integrity of SCADA and CPM data quality.

In addition, the Specialist is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) used to train control room personnel. By ensuring that SCADA signals, CPM applications, alarm behavior, HMI operation, and control logic are accurately reflected in the OTS, this role enables realistic and effective training for normal, abnormal, and emergency operating scenarios.

Through strong technical expertise and cross‑functional collaboration, the Specialist improves operational safety, strengthens compliance, and improves control room readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

SCADA & Leak Detection Support:

  • Support real‑time SCADA monitoring and leak detection operations.

  • Troubleshoot CPM and leak detection alerts, alarms, and associated data issues.

  • Maintain high‑quality SCADA and CPM data, ensuring accuracy and reliability.

  • Support alarm management, including validation of alarm behavior, priorities, and performance.

Operator Training Simulator (OTS)

  • Develop, configure, and maintain the Operator Training Simulator to align with current SCADA logic and field conditions.

  • Ensure OTS accurately mirrors live HMI behavior, control logic, alarms, and system responses.

  • Build and maintain realistic training scenarios for normal, abnormal, and emergency operations.

  • Support operator training exercises and simulations in coordination with training and control room teams.

Compliance, Testing, & Documentation

  • Perform periodic system testing to validate leak detection coverage and alarm performance.

  • Support KPI reporting related to leak detection and SCADA system performance.

  • Maintain organized, audit‑ready documentation to support regulatory and internal compliance requirements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Work closely with SCADA engineers, leak detection engineers, field I&E teams, control room operators, and training teams.

  • Support system updates, improvements, and troubleshooting efforts across disciplines.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen system reliability and operator readiness.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Operations Technology, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.

  • Experience working with SCADA systems.

  • Strong understanding of:

  • HMI systems

  • PLC/RTU logic

  • Industrial communications

  • Control room operations

  • Experience with CPM leak detection systems (e.g., Atmos, PLM, or similar).

  • Experience with SCADA simulation or dynamic modeling.

  • Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics or facility operations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with alarm management standards and practices.

  • Experience supporting compliance, audit preparation, or regulatory testing.

  • Ability to work optimally across technical and operational teams.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
