Job Description: Role Overview

The ROC Well Engineering Specialist role is responsible for monitoring well operations and providing drilling engineering support during operations that aim for delivering step‑change improvements in safety and performance through sharing best practice and lessons learned between rigs/regions and identify/escalate risks to prevent continuation bias. The ROC Engineering Specialist will identify and eliminate drilling limiters using a data‑driven approach and new digital and automation tools.

The ROC Engineering Specialist will foster and maintain strong working relationships with regional Engineers, other ROC Engineers in Pune, and Wells Solutions Technical Specialists & Advisors.

This is an ideal opportunity for engineers who are looking to rapidly increase their operational experience whilst gaining exposure in multiple basins. The ROC development structure allows individuals to maximise their time in the ROC to deliver for our clients whilst fast tracking their development.

The ROC Engineering Specialist role is rotational (3 weeks on / 3 weeks off), working 12‑hour day shifts.

Accountability1. Non‑Productive Time (NPT) Avoidance • Analyse and monitor real‑time data to prevent or minimize NPT events. Intervene if a risk or opportunity is identified. Escalate risks or missed opportunities to prevent continuation bias.

  • Maintain oversight of frequent NPT events, determine common root causes, and implement mitigation strategies.

2. Invisible Lost Time (ILT) Avoidance • Analyse rig performance and identify inefficiencies using benchmarks and lessons learned.

  • Review and improve engineering procedures.
  • Support transfer of lessons learned across assets to promote flat time reduction.

3. Assurance & Oversight • Lead oversight of Pune team deliverables and provide support.

  • Verify engineering deliverables for quality and conformance during critical sections.
  • Perform pre‑execution checks for critical sections.
  • Regularly verify barriers using SV&OS.

4. Digital Enablement & Innovation • Contribute to the development and deployment of new digital and automation tools and technologies.

  • Improve operational decision‑making through better data visualisation.
  • Support digital tool development and performance improvement initiatives.

5. Standardisation & Knowledge Sharing • Share insights and lessons learned during RWI meetings and across teams.

  • Promote standardised drilling practices by sharing procedures across rigs (e.g., FIT, LWD tests, jarring).
  • Contribute to Connexus with lessons learned and case studies.

6. Emergency Response Support • Provide engineering support when there are emergent issues, for example:

  • Create first response well control slide pack • Assist with calculations (kill sheets, kick tolerance, FIT interpretation, interpretation, Positive/Negative pressure tests, Cement calculations, Hydraulics etc.) • Review or write RWIs

Essential Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering

  • Wells experience

  • Excellent problem‑solving, team work analytical, and communication skills

  • Demonstrable leadership of safety and risk management

  • Strong operational background

  • Strong software background (Wellplan torque and drag, Wellplan stuck pipe analysis, Hydraulics analysis, CAM software etc.)
