Job Description:

As a Senior Strategy Manager within bp’s Strategy & Sustainability team, you will lead the development and execution of technology strategies that drive transformation and innovation across bp’s businesses. This role requires a sound working knowledge of technology within the energy sector or related industries, and the ability to integrate critical thinking with technical insight.

You will collaborate closely with senior stakeholders—including VP, SVP and EVPs—to ensure the ‘golden thread’ of technology strategy is consistently woven through all investments and decision-making processes. Your responsibilities include steering complex, high-impact projects, enabling functional transformation, and supporting priority special projects.

You will role model bp’s ‘Who we are’ principles: live our purpose, play to win, and care for others, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strategic excellence. This role would be a perfect opportunity for someone with a passion for technology and a desire to harness technology in the delivery of bp's strategy.

What you will do...

  • Technology Strategy Development & Innovation:

Lead the creation and evolution of technology strategies and policies, ensuring alignment with bp’s overarching strategic narrative. Apply methodologies in strategic problem solving, value creation, and policy writing, with a focus on transformation driven by technology.

  • Project Leadership:

Steer complex, high-impact technology projects and special initiatives on behalf of VP, SVP and EVP partners. Develop work plans, prioritise backlogs, and ensure quality control and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle

  • Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision makers across the technology ecosystem. Guide strategic focus and deployment, integrating technology strategy across business divisions and supporting functions
  • Strategy Communication:

Develop compelling storylines and prepare materials that effectively communicate technology strategies for diverse audiences, including bp’s businesses, integrating functions, and leadership teams

  • Strategic Origination:

Monitor technology trends and market movements to identify new strategic opportunities, working with existing Technology teams. Share insights and findings with the wider team to support targeted technology strategy development

  • Development and Coaching:

Enhance the capabilities of the team by leading coaching sessions focused on technology strategy skills. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and strategic excellence

  • Thought Leadership:

Contribute to bp’s intellectual capital by sharing technology-related knowledge and insights, and developing innovative approaches to technology strategy, planning, and execution

  • Role Modelling & Compliance:

Adhere to bp’s Code of Conduct and exemplify strong leadership through bp’s ‘Who we are’ principles, especially in the context of technology strategy

What you will bring...

  • Strategic leadership:

Previous experience in a senior strategic role – including demonstrated success in developing and implementing technology strategies that deliver significant business improvements. Proven track record of leading multiple projects, strategic problem solving, mobilising teams, and/or managing complex stakeholder environments.

  • Broad technology landscape knowledge:

Awareness of and a deep curiosity towards current and emerging technologies, industry trends, and standard processes across digital transformation, enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, automation, and data management. Ability to evaluate and apply technology solutions to strategic business challenges

  • Relationship management and communication:

Strong relationship-building skills with senior decision makers, technical teams, and external partners. Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse audiences

  • Continuous learning and thought leadership:

Commitment to staying updated with technology trends, sharing insights, and contributing to bp’s intellectual capital and innovation culture

  • Deep expertise in technology strategy is desirable:

Significant experience shaping and delivering technology strategies within complex organisations, ideally in the energy sector or a top-tier professional services/consulting firm. Proven ability to drive transformation and innovation through technology
