About Wells Solution Fluids Laboratory:

The team provides technical services to support drilling and completion operations globally and works closely with the Oil and Gas Technology team to evaluate new products and tools to improve efficiency.

About the role:

The Senior Lab Technician provides technical oversight and implements advanced testing programs under the guidance of the Lab Manager, ensuring alignment with project goals and safety standards. The role holder operates a range of high-pressure high-temperature equipment, rheometers, core flood equipment and performs analytical testing.

You will work in alignment with the bp Code, bp values, and the Well Solutions Guiding Principles, with a strong focus on risk management. You will act as a visible safety role model, promoting a strong speak‑up culture, and drive continuous improvement in laboratory HSSE standards and risk mitigation practices.

Job purpose and objectives:

The position brings sound technical and industry knowledge on fluid and formation damage testing. The role will also collaborate closely with internal teams and global collaborators, and will report to the Fluids Lab Manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior lab technicians, ensuring consistent knowledge transfer and skill development.

  • Lead and implement advanced laboratory testing programs, including high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) evaluations, rheology profiling, and formation damage assessments.

  • Author and present detailed technical reports and data summaries to regional collaborators and project teams.

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of test procedures, results, and equipment performance logs.

  • Work closely with other sub-disciplines (Fluids, Cementing & Technology) in terms of providing laboratory and technical support.

  • Support Fluids Lab Manager with maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and certain repairs required for accurate and reliable operation of equipment.

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant science or engineering discipline, or an equivalent qualification with five or more years of relevant experience.

  • Industry‑specific knowledge (desirable).

  • Strong project management and organisational skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple activities and projects concurrently.

  • Self‑motivated and proactive, with a strong can‑do attitude.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team player, with strong networking skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, effective across all organisational levels.

  • High attention to detail, with focus on quality and safety.
