JMP_ Vehicle Simulation Expert – Truck Systems Modeling
About the role
-
Key Responsibilities Model Development & System Integration • Develop high-fidelity, modular simulation models of truck systems, including: o Vehicle dynamics (longitudinal, lateral, and vertical) o Suspension systems (leaf, air, semi-active) o Braking systems (air brake components for truck & trailers) o Steering systems (hydraulic, electric, steer-by-wire) o Powertrain systems (ICE, hybrid, electric) o Tire and road interaction models (e.g., Pacejka or analytical formulations) • Implement and manage models using tools such as MATLAB/ Simulink/Simscape, AMESim, or custom frameworks using Python/C++, as appropriate.
-
Architect models to support control algorithm development, design trade-off analysis, and system-level simulation.
-
Ensure modularity and clear interface between subsystems to support full-vehicle integration and rapid iteration. Simulation Workflow & Validation • Validate and refine custom models using a combination of approaches: o First-principles modeling (Newtonian, Lagrangian) o Parameter identification (using test data or physical measurements) o Data-driven or grey-box approaches where suitable • Develop model architectures and simulation workflows for performanceprediction, control algorithm development (MIL/SIL), design optimization andtrade-off studies.
-
Conduct ride and handling simulations, braking performance, and load transfer analyses.
-
Perform model correlation and validation using component test data, full-vehicle measurements, or published benchmarks.
-
Support virtual development of embedded control algorithms through MIL/SIL workflows, and real-time test setups.
-
Automate simulation pipelines for sensitivity analysis, parameter tuning, and performance optimization.
-
Interface with controls, systems, and test teams to support calibration, requirement validation, and vehicle-level integration. Toolchain Development & Innovation • Contribute to the development of internal simulation libraries and model architectures for reuse and scalability.
-
Stay current with industry simulation trends, advanced modeling strategies, and relevant standards in the vehicle engineering domain.
-
Proactively identify opportunities to improve model accuracy, simulation speed, or development workflows.
-
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior simulation engineers, if applicable.
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
-
5 – 10 years of experience in vehicle-level and subsystem-level simulation, preferably in the commercial/heavy-duty vehicle sector. o Strong understanding of Vehicle and Multibody dynamics, First-principles modeling, Vehicle performance metrics (ride comfort, stability, efficiency) • Proficiency in: o MATLAB/Simulink/Simscape for modeling and simulation workflows o Python/C++ scripting for automation or custom simulation logic • Experience in subsystem and system-level integration, focusing on steering, suspension, braking, powertrain, and vehicle dynamics.
-
Demonstrated ability to correlate simulation results with test data and improve model fidelity.
-
Familiarity with automotive testing methods, vehicle instrumentation, and test data correlation is a plus
