Boeing Test and Evaluation (BT&E) Safety is seeking a Lab Test Systems Safety Engineer who will lead test safety activities for military aerospace programs in Berkeley, MO.
The ideal candidate will apply safety management system (SMS), systems engineering, and industrial engineering methodologies to proactively identify and mitigate potential test-related product and personnel risk exposures throughout the product test life cycle. This includes hazard identification, risk assessment, safety requirements development, mitigation verification, and compliance with regulatory and company safety standards. Focus areas include assessing and supporting development and execution of test plans to successfully achieve test requirements while also minimizing safety risk exposures to personnel and product.
In this position, the selected candidate will also evaluate engineering plans and test plans for inclusion of design practices that support design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) concepts. Supported labs include Structures, Electromagnetic, Wind Tunnel, Metrology, Environmental and Thermodynamics, etc.
This position requires frequent collaboration with senior leaders and a wide range of subject matter experts. The ideal candidate is an individual who thrives when avidly supporting business partner’s safety needs in a multi-domain lab test environment. Must be operational and applied science oriented with a strong propensity to solve complex challenges and unafraid to learn new skills and processes. A background in industrial engineering or manufacturing engineering is highly beneficial.

This role requires a systems thinking approach to mitigate risks along with an in-depth understanding of test hazards. You must also have the ability to work collaboratively across a broad section of program and test capabilities to support the test statement of work and the development of test safety requirements throughout BT&E’s Product Test Life Cycle (PTLC). Additionally, the selected candidate will lead Safety Action Groups (SAGs), promote a positive safety culture, and actively apply SMS principles. The job also involves test-related incident investigations and safety report (e.g. Speak Up) investigations.
Our team is currently hiring for a range of experience levels including Mid-Level and Senior Lab Test Systems Safety Engineers.
Position Responsibilities Include:

Conducts system research and analysis to identify potential, or investigate reported, in-service fleet hazards, risks, and safety concerns and quantifies impact

Identifies safety and mission assurance issue systemic root causes and recommends corrective actions using industry best practices

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures

Performs or reviews tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements

Creates and maintains aerospace safety and mission assurance tools and processes

Documents safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standard

Develops and maintains safety and corrective action plans

Assists with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators

Ensures mission success through execution of Mission Assurance activities throughout the program lifecycle

Contributes to establishing global safety advocacy strategies, training, tools, and methods
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

Experience working with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Share Point, and Teams

Experience working with Test Readiness Reviews, Design Reviews and/or Technical Working Groups

Experience in formal technical presentations and formal customer presentations

Experience working with safety analyses such as Risk Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault-tree Analysis (FTA), etc.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

5 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

3+ years of experience in systems safety engineering or industrial engineering
-
3+ years of experience with system safety analysis
-
Experience with product safety, safety management systems, safety risk management, and leading hazard analyses for novel systems
-
Experience working in a lab or experimental test environment
-
Environmental Health Safety (EHS) experience
-
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable and/or 3+ years of EHS experience

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range Mid-Level: $107,100 - $144,900
Summary pay range Senior: $131,750 - $178,250
Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.
