What do enterprise data clients, photos in BB news, and employee payroll instructions have in common? Few teams interact with as much of Bloomberg data as we do - our systems quietly move 7 terabytes of data a day across 50k different enterprise clients. As the team behind the SFTP platform, our work enables secure, automated, and scalable file transfers, supporting everything from internal workflows to customer-facing products. If you’re excited by systems that demand robustness, reliability, and thoughtful engineering, you’ll feel right at home with us.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build a high-performance SFTP infrastructure which will serve as the connectivity point for all enterprise level file transfers. As we look to scale our system, we plan on building out runtime policy enforcements on client interactions as well as expanding our API offerings for internal interactions with client data.
We are part of the Bloomberg Connectivity & Integration (BCI) organization, which connects thousands of enterprise clients to hundreds of Bloomberg applications, moving terabytes of financial data in a snap.
Key Work on the Team:
- Develop FSTAX - the next-generation SFTP platform that supports over 90 different internal products and ~7TB of daily data transfer.
- Design and implement innovative features for our file based platform, including policy enforcement, data routing, and large file transfers.
- Collaborate closely with infrastructure and security teams to enhance observability, reliability, and security across the gateway.
- Optimize performance for low-latency and high-throughput environments to support critical business flows.
- Influence the architecture and technical direction of core systems impacting cross-team connectivity.
What’s in it for You?
- High-impact work: Your contributions will directly influence business-critical infrastructure and improve platform scalability and reliability.
- End-to-end ownership: Take full control of projects, from design through implementation and deployment.
- Work with distributed systems: Leverage Kafka, BCS, and paramiko, and gain expertise in SFTP server design, API design, high-performance networking, and observability tools.
- Opportunities for growth: Collaborate across teams and shape the future architecture of the platform. Take your software building skills to the next level by developing deep expertise in distributed systems design and infrastructure development.
- A passionate team culture: We’re a team that gets things done and knows how to have a good time while we’re at it. Whether it’s casual game nights, team outings, or impromptu happy hours, we make time to unwind and enjoy each other’s company outside of work too.
We’d love to see:
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on distributed systems, networking, or infrastructure solutions.
- Expertise in Python and experience working with distributed systems.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/UDP, HTTP/2.
- Experience in performance tuning and building low-latency, high-throughput systems.
- Demonstrated leadership in driving complex projects across multiple stakeholders.
- A passion for open-source technologies and a knack for building scalable connectivity solutions at enterprise levels.
