The Americas Institutional Businesses (AIB) is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with sophisticated institutional investors. Across the US, Canada and Lat Am, AIB is focused on helping defined contribution (DC) plans, pensions, universities, non-profits, family offices, healthcare systems and other institutional investors meet their financial goals and serve their constituents and communities. Black Rock’s Canadian Institutional Client team is driving a growing business, offering institutional clients access to global leading investment solutions across a diverse suite of private market, active, passive, alternatives, multi-asset, cash management and technology offerings. This position offers the opportunity to join one of the world’s leading asset management firms and be an important contributor to future growth.

Job Description:

We are seeking a dynamic leader to join Black Rock’s Canadian Institutional Client team at the Vice President level.

For awareness, the hierarchy of Black Rock leadership is Vice President, Director and Managing Director.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining key institutional relationships across Canada to grow our business and assets under management. Additionally, you will partner with our Client Experience team to service existing clients, delivering best in class thought leadership and investment solutions to maintain and grow our share of wallet.

The role is based in Montreal and requires fluency in both English and French. Some travel is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships with institutional clients and prospects, acting as their primary point of contact with the firm.

  • Develop and diligently execute a strategy to cross sell to existing client base.

  • Drive new revenue and mandate generation across products and client types.

  • Lead robust client and prospect meeting and engagement activity.

  • Initiate brand building and sales activity with investors not currently engaged in discussions with Black Rock.

  • Develop and execute strategy to uncover and execute mandates that will have the most commercial impact.

  • Develop product fluency across Black Rock's product offerings - including fixed income, equities, alternatives and risk systems.

  • Clearly and concisely articulate multiple market narratives and product characteristics to sophisticated institutional investors.

  • Work collaboratively with partners within Black Rock to drive new business opportunities and solve complex client issues and challenges.

  • Lead support staff on assigned client relationships to provide client service and implement sales strategy.

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the team’s overall development.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • 6+ years of substantial experience in institutional fundraising with relationships across a range of institutional investor clients and sustained success at selling to public and corporate pension plans, endowments, foundations, and/or family offices.

  • Relevant regulatory licenses. Graduate degree and CFA charter holder preferred.

  • Collaborative and cooperative approach to a team-based sales model.

  • Strong understanding of the asset management sales process as it relates to institutional investors.

  • Deep industry and investment knowledge. Strong proficiency across a wide range of traditional and alternative investment products. Clear awareness of key issues affecting institutional investors

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and concisely articulate market views and product or platform characteristics to sophisticated institutional investors both in written work and presentations to large and small audiences.

  • Proven ability to drive results in an autonomous working environment and in close collaboration with colleagues across business units.

  • Strong intellectual ability and interpersonal skills to establish his/her credibility with the senior leaders throughout the firm and throughout the institutional investor community.

  • Passion for the financial markets and business development.

  • Ability to lead by example – high ethical standards and strong work ethic.

For Montreal, Canada Only the salary range for this position is CAD**$125,000.00** - CAD**$175,000.00** . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. Black Rock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
