Tax Analyst
About this role
Black Rock Product Tax oversees tax planning, tax reporting, and tax regulatory compliance for all Black Rock products. The majority of the team’s functions are managed from New York, Princeton, London, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Sydney. The group will work with key internal stakeholders including various Business Operations groups such as Global Fund Services and Onboarding, as well as Portfolio Management, Legal and Securities Lending groups. The group regularly engages with Black Rock’s external custodial service providers and is responsible for administration and oversight of services as they relate to custody taxation.
Purpose/Background:
Based in Budapest the individual will report to a Product Tax member either in Budapest and will be responsible for ensuring the day to day running of certain Global Product Tax documentation, compliance and reporting activities, working across all Product types. The individual will also work closely with the Global Product Tax Policy teams, custodians and third-party advisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ongoing monitoring of external custodial documentation reporting and ad-hoc documentation requests to address maintenance of critical Black Rock fund tax documentation. Develop escalation protocols to resolve time-sensitive documentation issues.
- Facilitate production, execution, recording and transmittal of tax-critical documents to custodians and third parties as required.
- Assist in ongoing maintenance of various Tax data points within Black Rock’s Aladdin platform.
- Complete periodic reconciliation of fund tax rate entitlements and reporting classifications in Black Rock systems against custodial systems and/or administrator systems to ensure alignment.
- Take the lead in certain projects, to improve processes and efficiency, which can be global in nature.
- Drive performance through identification and use of technology solutions to the Product Tax processes.
- Administration of other regular and/or ad hoc MIS reporting as required.
- Role will require interface with global colleagues, so will require the ability to work flexible hours on occasions.
Development Value:
Specifically, the role offers opportunity to develop knowledge of fund level tax across numerous tax regimes. The role offers the opportunity to work, not only with the various Black Rock tax teams but across business functions, with particular focus on operational functions.
This role offers the ability to understand the various products of Black Rock, gain an in-depth knowledge of financial services sector, building of technical product and tax knowledge, project management, exposure to senior management across the firm, and ability to develop soft personal skills by managing various stakeholders both internal and external.
The candidate will be able to get exposure to senior management through work on their key responsibilities and project work. This role will also be part of the Budapest office and will be a cultural ambassador and mentor to other colleagues that join the office as it grows over the coming months and years.
Experience/Competencies:
- Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in accounting, legal, investment management, brokerage, capital markets, or custody.
- Documentation/compliance experience preferable.
- Exposure to project management would be desirable
- Specific experience with the use of technology to improve efficiency of processes.
- Comfort with general accounting/investment management concepts and systems.
- Highly organized, strong attention to detail with ability to manage multiple work-streams with varied deadlines.
- Strong excel / database skills preferred.
- Self-starter able to work independently when necessary.
