Job Overview

The Medical Lead, THM affiliate serves as the senior medical leader for Biogen’s portfolio across Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. This role is accountable for defining and executing integrated medical strategy across the products lifecycle, including in-line brands, launches, and pipeline assets.
The role partners cross-functionally with Commercial, Value & Access, Corporate Affairs, Regional and Global Medical teams to shape scientific strategy, advance evidence generation, and ensure Biogen maintains scientific and ethical leadership in Neuromuscular Diseases. As a people leader, the Medical Lead builds, develops, and retains a high-performing medical organization to support current and future portfolio needs. This role sits on the affiliate leadership team.

5 Principal Accountabilities

(split is 70% business 30%people working closely with following functions

  • THM GM; THM Commercial; THM V&A; THM CA; APAC Medical Head; BIR Medical Head; CCSL; Pipeline MSL, Global NMD Team / ICOE)

Medical Strategy & Governance:

  • Own and execute the integrated medical strategy for all Tas - aligned with Regional and Global Medical
  • Provide medical leadership for therapeutic area planning, product launch readiness, lifecycle management, and pipeline prioritization
  • Serve as final medical decision authority for scientific education, positioning and evidence planning
  • Ensure optimal and continual medical training to local team
  • Support therapeutic experts in developing concepts and protocols for CSTs/SRAs/ registries.
  • Work with local patient organizations in collaboration with Cooperate Affairs to educate about the disease area and advances in patient care.
  • Responsible to ensure that all scientific and promotional materials and activities meet the medical/scientific standards of the MA code of conduct and other similar forums where we will conduct business in THM.
  • Participate in relevant industry associations and attend scientific conferences

Neuromuscular Disease Leadership (SMA & ALS):

  • Lead medical strategies for SMA and ALS portfolios
  • Oversee scientific exchange, medical education, congresses, and insight generation
  • Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with Key Medical Experts
  • Ensure high-quality medical material, medical information, compliance, and vendor governance

Pipeline & Future Portfolio:

  • Lead disease-area strategy and ecosystem mapping for future NMD, immunology, and nephrology assets
  • Support appropriate screening processes to identify potential investigators for Biogen initiated clinical trials collaborating with the clinical study operations teams to evaluate requests and assess center capacity for clinical studies.
  • Act as primary medical interface with Regional and Global Medical teams

Medical Infrastructure:

  • Oversee Post-Trial Access, Expanded Access, Compassionate Use Programs
  • Lead Patient Support Programs and medical information operations
  • P&L responsibility for Medical budget

People Leadership:

  • Drive organisational development and changes in structure in line with business growth
  • Build, develop, and retain a strong medical team (~3-4 direct reports)
  • Drive capability development, succession planning, and talent retention
  • Champion a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, and patient-centricity

Minimum Education Requirements

Medical or scientific qualification required. (M.D., Ph.D., or Pharm.D. preferred)

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs within the biopharmaceutical industry in Taiwan• Demonstrated people leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and reimbursement environments
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Chinese
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix organization
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% as required
