About the role

As the Indirect Tax Analyst, you’ll play a key role supporting the ongoing maintenance of the transaction tax technology solutions and processes to comply with state and local tax laws. You will mitigate risks, respond to customer sales tax and fee inquiries, and investigate and resolve identified issues. You’ll support maintenance of the Vertex sales and use tax applications, as well as related applications. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, interest in developing new technical skills, and the ability to collaborate with internal tax teams to ensure accurate and compliant sales tax processes.

This role is hybrid, which means you will be required to work on site at the Best Buy corporate office in Richfield, Minnesota, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain and update the Vertex tax application, including tax drivers, taxability mappings, location setups, tax assist lookup tables, and more.
  • Investigate and resolve customer sales tax inquiries by obtaining relevant data, researching taxability issues, and providing clear, accurate, and timely responses.
  • Maintain accurate taxability for marketplaces.
  • Configure taxability for use tax on procurement.
  • Participate with periodic Vertex tax content updates.
  • Participate in fiscal period close tax compliance activities.
  • Assist with business operation risk mitigation efforts.
  • Assist with testing tax applications as a part of projects, application patching, and holiday preparation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other areas of Indirect Tax (Tax Audit, Compliance, Planning, and Operation teams) to support periodic/seasonal efforts, and other Indirect Tax efforts.

Basic qualifications

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel and Word skills
  • Strong research/investigative skills
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate organization and documentation skills
  • High level of ethics, integrity, judgment, discretion, and confidentiality

Preferred qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • 2 or more years of experience in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications and tax applications such as Vertex
  • Experience in accounting or sales, use, and excise tax within a retail organization
