It takes the imagination and passion of all of us—from design and engineering to the manufacturing and marketing of our billions of Med Tech products per year—to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities.

We believe that the human element, across our global teams, is what allows us to continually evolve. Join us and discover an environment in which you’ll be supported to learn, grow and become your best self. Become a maker of possible with us.

Role Overview:

The Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, R&D is a strategic communications professional with a strong communications background who will contribute to positioning the company’s R&D and innovation goals and impact. This role reports to the Senior Director, Corporate Communications, with strong alignment to the R&D Leadership Team (RDLT) and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to support translating science, technology, and innovation into clear, engaging narratives that build understanding, pride and credibility with employees and stakeholders.

This role also supports the planning and execution of flagship innovation initiatives—annual meetings and award programs – and plays a critical role in elevating the visibility, impact and reputation of R&D across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Communications Partnership

  • Develop and execute an integrated R&D communications strategy aligned with enterprise priorities and the broader corporate communications framework.

  • Serve as a communications partner to R&D leaders, helping shape messaging that supports innovation, transformation and long‑term growth.

  • Proactively identify storytelling opportunities that elevate R&D impact across internal and external channels.

  • Develop editorial‑quality content across formats and channels (company blog, internal feature stories, speeches, videos, Q&A, announcements, social media, etc.).

  • Partner with Corporate Communications colleagues to align R&D stories with potential media, thought leadership and employer brand opportunities, where appropriate.

  • Ensure consistency of voice, message discipline and brand standards across all R&D communications.

  • Measure and evaluate communications effectiveness, using insights to continuously refine strategy.

Executive & Leadership Partnership

  • Work with RDLT and the Chief Technology Officer to plan, craft and deliver high‑impact communications, including town halls, video scripts, talking points, presentations, and thought leadership content.

  • Translate technical and scientific concepts into accessible, compelling stories for a variety of audiences and communication channels.

  • Provide support on messaging, tone, and positioning for sensitive or high‑visibility initiatives.

Flagship Programs & Events Ownership

  • Lead communications strategy and execution for events and award programs, including message development, content planning, channel strategy and audience engagement.

  • Partner cross‑functionally to ensure these programs are well integrated, well promoted, and deliver measurable impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required with a focus in Journalism or Communications preferred

  • 5-7 years of experience in communications, journalism or corporate storytelling, with a strong portfolio of written and editorial work.

  • Demonstrated experience translating technical or scientific topics into clear, engaging and concise messaging.

  • Proven ability to support senior executives and leadership teams.

  • Strong strategic thinking combined with hands‑on execution excellence.

  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills with a journalistic mindset.

  • Experience leading communications for large‑scale events or enterprise programs.

  • Comfort operating in complex, matrixed organizations.

Preferred skills/experience

  • Experience supporting R&D, technology, innovation or scientific organizations.

Leadership & Behavioral Competencies

  • Strategic storyteller with strong editorial judgment.

  • Highly collaborative partner.

  • Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple high‑visibility initiatives.

  • Curious, adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Executive presence and confidence partnering with senior leaders.

At BD, we prioritize on-site collaboration because we believe it fosters creativity, innovation, and effective problem-solving, which are essential in the fast-paced healthcare industry.
