Project Overview:

The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team have signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas fired power generation facilities in the U.S. This project is of significant scale and complexity, and our team is helping the customer progress early-stage development, that would lead to the start of full EPC delivery this year.

The candidate will act as the Civil Field Engineer on the upcoming project. The candidate may start in the home office in Reston, VA, as single status, to support preconstruction planning, ahead of project mobilization to the field when the candidate will locate on a long-term assignment to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This position is contingent upon project award.

Job Summary:

The Civil Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance, direction, and support to Bechtel and subcontractor field supervision for construction and installation activities for all disciplines associated with specified area equipment and materials. You will support the installation of civil commodities and report to the Area Field Engineer responsibler for oversight in your work area. #L

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging:

• Prepares construction drawings and sketches.

• Facilitates planning construction methods and procedures.

• Prepares projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements

• Prepares field change documents and requests for information completeness.

• Plans construction execution, including installation sequence and resource loading.

• Evaluate and approve temporary construction facilities with the support of engineering and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.

• Review and analyze project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule

Material Management

• Initiates requisitions for field purchases.

• Prepares quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment.

• Inspects material upon receipt at site and material issued for preservation and maintenance.

• Issues material to craft professionals.

• Tracks field purchases and other purchases required for construction using procurement systems or other computer database programs as required.

Safety/Quality:

• Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

• Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.

• Enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.

Technical:

• Supports Construction Field Engineers, Supervision, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.

• Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, Supervision, Foremen and Craft Professionals.

• Coordinates with Design on constructability issues.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or other relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of 5-8 years of relevant work experience, or 9-12 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

• Experienced implementing and utilizing Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures.

• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications

• Experience in civil installation and inspection, specifically concrete and UG commodities.

• Knowledge of applicable civil codes ACI, CRSI, AISC, etc.

• Excellent problem-solving ability

• Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site.
