Project Overview:
Bechtel helps customers deliver projects of purpose that create a lasting positive legacy globally. These large, complex, and multi-disciplined projects create jobs, grow economies, and provide opportunities for local and regional communities.
The Eva Copper Mine Project is a greenfield resource poised to become the largest new mine in Queensland, Australia. It is located in Cloncurry on the traditional lands of the Kalkadoon people. The Project is owned by Harmony, a world-class gold and copper mining and development company with assets in South Africa, Australia, and Papua New Guinea.
Bechtel is delivering the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) scope for the Eva Copper Process Plant and Non-Process Infrastructure. Bechtel is providing these EPC services across all disciplines and functions for this exciting capital project.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will determine work scope and cost estimates for a project’s mechanical aspects. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical systems, components and processes. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues, support project stakeholders and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities:
- Plans and conducts independent mechanical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
- Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
- Develops conceptual designs for mechanical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements
- Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
- Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of mechanical aspects of the work
- Conducts or leads special studies of new mechanical engineering methods, materials and techniques
- Mentors mechanical engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development. Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed
- Other duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, materials, and computers in the discipline, and of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Experience in the design and specification of tanks, pumps, hopper, handling equipment and other mechanical equipment commonly used in mining and metals projects.
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
- Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved. Broad knowledge of industry /regulatory codes and standards, and design and/or layout criteria pertinent to the mechanical discipline.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Candidate to nominate past experience with Copper Concentrator projects
