- The Elgin, Oklahoma site of BAE Systems is seeking a Receiving Quality Inspector. In this role as a Quality Inspector, you will perform quality audits for conformance to drawings/specification on large structures, weldments, assemblies, and individual components procured from suppliers. Verifications include but are not limited to; visual weld and dimensional inspection, color conformance, plating, paint quality, damage, completeness of assemblies/weldments and kits, etc. Verifications may be visual or tactile and may require use of standard precision measuring equipment. The Inspector determines the appropriate accept/reject disposition and documents results within required BAE Systems repositories.
- Receives instructions and work orders from Quality Manager, Quality Engineer, or Lead person designated by BAE Systems management.
- Assures continuity of production by performing quality inspections, at a random sampling plan directed by the Quality Manager, and other tasks as required by instruction or specification.
- Refers to sources of inspection criteria such as drawings, sketches, inspection procedures, military and commercial specifications, purchase orders, technical handbooks and charts, supplemental quality assurance requirements (i.e. SQAP’s, QAP’s and QAR’s), etc.
- Performs audits/verifications consisting of but not limited to; completeness of weldments/assemblies, dimensionals, visual weld, paint/plating, cleanliness, and damage per applicable drawings/specifications and determines appropriate disposition.
- Records accept/reject disposition via the appropriate BAE electronic filing repository (Oracle, EFIR, TIPQA, etc.) and completes necessary material control tags and database entries.
- Utilizes equipment consisting of but not limited to precision standard measuring equipment, functional gauges, functional test equipment, pressure gauges, etc. as required.
- Performs air pressure tests, as required.
- Marks questionable areas for rework/repair, when applicable.
- Accesses assemblies by ladders, turnovers, low level catwalks, etc. May require bending, stooping, crawling, reaching, and awkward positioning to access inspection components and weldments.
- Performs layouts and set-ups using standard measuring equipment, as required.
- Assures continuity of production by performing quality inspections and other tasks as required by instruction or specification.
- Designates inspection status of items utilizing documentation methods such as stamps, forms, tags, controlled database entries, etc.
- Maintains technical proficiency through ongoing training and certification on emerging systems, specifically the FARO Arm and Keyence Optical Comparator.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Typically requires a High School diploma and three (3) years experience or the overall equivalent
- Able to read and work to technical documents (i.e. drawings, specifications, purchase orders, etc.)
- Understanding of the imperial measurement and metric system, conversions, fractions and decimal equivalents
- Working understanding of Weld Symbols and their uses
- Experience working with various Weld Inspection tools and gauges such as weld fillet gauges and V-Wac gauges
- Experience working with Standard Measuring equipment such as a 6”ruler, tape measure, and combination squares
- Experience with Precision Measurement equipment such as calipers (both vernier and digital), height gauges, surface plates, protractors, gauge blocks/pins, micrometers, depth gauges, thread gauges, plain plugs and ring gauges, profilometers, graduated and digital measuring device
- Familiarity in using material handling equipment such as jacks, hand trucks, jib cranes, etc.
- Basic computer and data entry skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Physically able to access vehicles in order to obtain inspection data. This includes both fitness to climb in and around vehicles and regularly required vision screening for compliance with maintaining VT certification. May require bending, stooping, crawling, reaching, awkward positioning and lifting up to 40 lbs, unassisted
- Ability to pass BAE Systems' in-house Visual Testing (VT) Level II evaluation (after hire and with training from the company)
- Ability to effectively communicate/report non-conformances of parts from technical documents and standards
- Self-motivated and the ability to work unsupervised
- Able to uphold requirement to adhere to all Company and Departmental safety policies, and to follow all safety procedures dictated by applicable work instructions
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Associates degree
- Experience working within a manufacturing DoW environment
- Certified as a VT level II inspector per SNT-TC-1A
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $54014 - $86423
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
