Autodesk is seeking a Transportation Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as the strategic industry leader within our Product Management organization, focused on Departments of Transportation (DOTs) and linear infrastructure projects. This highly visible role operates at the intersection of executive client engagement, product strategy, and product management.
Reporting into the Product Organization, the Transportation SME will spend most of their time with infrastructure industry leaders, and Autodesk senior leadership, shaping strategy and influencing product direction. Internally, this role partners closely with Product Managers to prioritize transportation and infrastructure-related initiatives, ensuring Autodesk’s solutions align with the evolving needs of transportation sector stakeholders.
This position is ideal for a product-minded infrastructure leader who combines deep domain expertise with executive presence and strategic influence over product decisions.
Responsibilities
-
Serve as Autodesk’s Bay Area-based transportation industry advisor in executive-level discussions with major linear infrastructure industry stakeholders.
-
Lead and support strategic engagements involving digital delivery mandates, enterprise agreements, model-based workflows, and lifecycle data strategy
-
Build trusted advisor relationships with clients, DOT executives, CIOs, and capital program directors
-
Translate transportation industry challenges into clear product problem statements and strategic themes
-
Participate in executive roundtables, advisory boards, and industry events to strengthen Autodesk’s transportation positioning
-
Provide prioritization guidance to PM teams on infrastructure-related initiatives
-
Identify long-term industry trends (funding models, delivery methods, digital mandates, sustainability requirements) that should inform roadmap direction
-
Influence cross-product alignment across design, construction, and asset lifecycle workflows for linear transportation
Minimum Qualifications
-
10+ years of experience in transportation infrastructure, including leadership roles within a DOT, major consulting firm, or other linear infrastructure projects.
-
Direct experience delivering complex highway, rail, or corridor projects
-
Strong understanding of public-sector capital programs and DOT governance structures
-
Demonstrated experience participating in executive-level client discussions
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
-
Exceptional communication skills with strong executive presence
-
Ability to translate industry challenges into strategic product insights
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience leading or supporting digital transformation initiatives within a DOT or infrastructure owner organization
-
Familiarity with model-based delivery, BIM for Infrastructure, digital twin concepts, or lifecycle data management
-
Experience working with enterprise software providers or technology transformation programs
-
Master’s degree in Engineering, Public Administration, or Business Administration
-
Familiarity with Autodesk’s and other other industry software
The Ideal Candidate:
-
Trusted advisor mindset with the credibility to influence executives and product teams
-
Strategic thinker who understands both infrastructure delivery and software product development
-
Comfortable operating without direct product ownership while influencing major roadmap decisions
-
Highly collaborative with strong stakeholder management skills

Am I a liar? I got hired for a high-paying 3D design job and they think I’m using hardcore CAD software. I’m not.
I need some outside perspective because this is starting to keep me up at night. A few weeks ago I got hired at a company to help design a new product. The pay is honestly way higher than anything I expected. During interviews they mostly focused on my portfolio and how quickly I could iterate concepts. They seemed really impressed. Now that I’m here, everyone seems to assume I’m some kind of industrial desing/mechanical engineering CAD expert. I'm actually self-taught from YouTube. People i
