Job Title: Director – Technology / Engineering – Residential Gateways, Embedded Platforms & Wireless

We are looking for a Director of Technology / Engineering to lead the strategy, architecture, execution, and delivery of next-generation residential gateway platforms. This role will own the technical roadmap across embedded firmware, prplOS/Open Wrt-based platforms, Linux wireless, broadband device management, networking, containerization, and carrier-grade software reliability.

The Director will partner closely with product, architecture, platform engineering, quality, operations, vendors, and senior leadership to translate business priorities into scalable technology outcomes. The ideal candidate combines deep embedded systems expertise with strong engineering leadership, program execution discipline, stakeholder management, and the ability to build high-performing global teams.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy & Roadmap: Define and drive the long-term technology roadmap for residential gateway software platforms, ensuring alignment with business priorities, product strategy, customer commitments, and evolving broadband technology standards.

Engineering Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop managers, architects, technical leads, and senior engineers across embedded firmware, wireless, networking, platform, QA, and automation functions.

Architecture Governance: Own architectural direction for scalable, hardware-agnostic gateway platforms leveraging prplOS/Open Wrt, SoC abstraction, Linux networking, device management, containerized services, and lifecycle management.

Execution & Delivery: Oversee end-to-end engineering delivery from requirements and architecture through development, validation, release, deployment, and production support.

Wireless & Broadband Platform Leadership: Provide strategic oversight for Wi-Fi 6E/Wi-Fi 7, Linux wireless stack, hostapd, wpa_supplicant, iw, TR-181, USP/TR-369, L2/L3 networking, routing, bridging, and packet forwarding capabilities.

Quality, Reliability & Performance: Establish engineering standards for code quality, test automation, unit testing, performance profiling, memory optimization, stability, observability, and carrier-grade reliability.

Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, CI/CD practices, release governance, defect management, incident response, technical debt reduction, and productivity metrics.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with product, program management, architecture, security, operations, customer-facing teams, and external partners to ensure technology solutions are scalable, secure, cost-effective, and commercially viable.

Vendor & Ecosystem Management: Manage strategic relationships with silicon vendors, software partners, open-source communities, and technology suppliers to influence roadmaps and resolve complex integration challenges.

People, Budget & Resource Planning: Own workforce planning, hiring, capability development, budget inputs, resource allocation, and succession planning for the technology organization.

Must-Have Requirements

Experience: 15+ years of technology, embedded software, platform engineering, or telecom/networking product development experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.

Domain Expertise: Strong background in broadband, telecom, networking, residential gateways, embedded Linux, connected devices, or carrier-grade platform software.

Leadership Scale: Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams, managers, architects, and senior technical contributors across complex product portfolios.

Embedded Platform Knowledge: Strong understanding of C/C++, embedded Linux, Open Wrt/prplOS, firmware architecture, SoC integration, hardware abstraction, and platform lifecycle management.

Networking & Wireless: Deep knowledge of L2/L3 networking concepts, routing, bridging, Wi-Fi architecture, Linux wireless stack, and broadband connectivity standards.

Device Management: Strong working knowledge of TR-181, USP/TR-369, remote device management, telemetry, provisioning, and carrier operations requirements.

Delivery Leadership: Demonstrated success delivering complex technology programs across architecture, development, testing, release, and production support.

Engineering Excellence: Experience establishing best practices for SDLC, automation, CI/CD, test strategy, code quality, observability, performance profiling, security, and reliability.

Stakeholder Management: Ability to influence senior leaders, product stakeholders, vendors, customers, and distributed engineering teams through clear communication and data-driven decision-making.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree preferred.

Good-to-Have Requirements

Hands-on experience with prplOS, prpl Foundation ecosystem, Open Wrt ubus, iMTP, Docker-based embedded services, or prpl LCM.

Experience working with Broadcom, Max Linear, Qualcomm, or similar residential gateway SoC platforms.

Exposure to Wi-Fi 7, Easy Mesh, multi-AP architectures, cloud-managed CPE, telemetry platforms, or large-scale broadband device fleets.

Experience contributing to open-source ecosystems or working with standards bodies, silicon vendors, OEMs, ODMs, or telecom operators.

Certifications or formal training in technology leadership, agile delivery, cybersecurity, cloud platforms, product management, or program management.

Leadership Expectations

Set a clear technical vision and translate it into measurable engineering outcomes.

Build a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement.

Develop strong technical leaders and succession depth across the organization.

Balance strategic thinking with the ability to dive deep into complex technical and operational issues when required.

Communicate effectively with executive stakeholders, engineering teams, partners, and customer-facing groups.
