Job Description:

Director, Systems Engineering

Job Summary:

The Director, Systems Engineering will lead a high-performing team focused on the design, analysis, and validation of next-generation solar tracking systems. This role is responsible for setting the strategic direction of systems engineering across mechanical, structural, and dynamic domains, ensuring technical excellence, innovation, and alignment with business goals. The Director will oversee the development of engineering models, simulation tools, and validation protocols that drive product performance, reliability, and cost competitiveness. This leader will collaborate cross-functionally with product development, performance engineering, and sustaining teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet evolving market demands.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Define and execute the systems engineering strategy for solar tracking platforms, including mechanical, structural, and dynamic subsystems.

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers specializing in FEA, MBD, wind load modeling, and drivetrain analysis.

  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of engineering models and design tools.

  • Establish validation protocols and test plans for system-level and component-level testing; ensure correlation between analytical models and physical test data.

  • Drive innovation in design methods, optimization techniques, and simulation workflows to enhance product competitiveness.

  • Partner with product management and R&D to guide the development of new products and enhancements.

  • Ensure compliance with civil engineering standards (e.g., ASCE 7, Eurocode 3) and integrate regulatory requirements into design processes.

  • Communicate complex technical concepts to executive, technical, and non-technical audiences with clarity and influence.

  • Champion a culture of technical rigor, collaboration, and continuous learning across the Systems Engineering function.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical/structural systems engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role.

  • Proven expertise in wind load calculations, structural dynamics, and drivetrain modeling.

  • Strong background in simulation tools (e.g., FEA, MBD, Python-based modeling); experience with MSC ADAMS is a plus.

  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams through complex product development cycles.

  • Experience with solar tracker systems or renewable energy technologies preferred.

  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and strategic planning skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with wind tunnel testing and data interpretation.

  • Familiarity with PV performance engineering and solar industry standards.

  • Ability to translate technical insights into actionable business strategies.

  • Passion for mentoring and developing engineering talent.
