YOUR ROLE

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for ensuring the availability, functionality, and continuous improvement of all tooling used in production. The role supports new program industrialization by overseeing tooling development, validation, and approval, while managing the complete tooling lifecycle, including preventive maintenance and repair coordination. Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Global Engineering teams, the Tooling Engineer ensures that tooling consistently enables stable processes, compliant products, and efficient manufacturing in line with global standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the proper functioning, reliability, and capability of all production tooling — including tools, dies, fixtures, and jigs. Diagnose tooling‑related issues, coordinate repairs, and implement permanent corrective actions. Monitor tooling performance indicators to prevent failures, extend tool life, and support stable production processes in collaboration with Production and Maintenance.
  • Participate in APQP and industrialization activities by ensuring tooling requirements are clearly defined, validated, and integrated into the manufacturing process. Support tooling design reviews, feasibility and DFM evaluations, and technical assessments during early development stages. Coordinate tool tryouts, capability studies, dimensional validations, and final approvals for new or modified tools, contributing to PPAP submissions.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance plans specific to tooling. Track and document the full tooling lifecycle — including wear, repairs, modifications, and performance history — ensuring all technical specifications, drawings, and documentation are kept accurate and up to date.
  • Collaborate with tooling suppliers for repairs, modifications, and new tooling development. Evaluate supplier proposals, technical solutions, and cost quotations, and follow up on tooling fabrication, delivery, FAT/SAT activities, and acceptance criteria to ensure compliance with IAS standards.
  • Drive improvements in tooling performance through optimization, redesign, and standardization efforts. Support cost‑reduction initiatives and scrap reduction by addressing tooling‑related quality issues. Work closely with Quality and Engineering teams to improve process capability and ensure tooling consistently enables stable, compliant production.

Must Haves (Basic Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience as Tooling Engineer or Manufacturing/Process Engineer in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with tooling suppliers, tryouts, and industrialization (APQP, PPAP).
  • Fluent English proficiency (business-level), with strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with multicultural and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling design, machining, materials, and process engineering.
  • Ability to read drawings and interpret GD&T.
  • Knowledge of automotive core tools (PFMEA, Control Plan, PPAP, MSA, SPC).
  • Strong problem-solving skills (8D, 5Why, Ishikawa).
  • Proficient in MS Office; CAD familiarity is a plus.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration.
