Applied Materials’ CTO group is searching for a quantum technology engineer intern to join our team! At Applied’s CTO group, we focus on solid-state solutions for quantum technology, ranging from superconducting qubits and optical quantum computing to quantum sensing platforms such as NV center based magnetometry and vapor cells. Our primary objective is to collaborate with system companies and universities to develop quantum devices with significantly lower error rates compared to current standards. Our approach centers on harnessing state of the art materials engineering and semiconductor processing, as well as our expertise in advanced optics and other relevant areas to enhance device performance. To achieve this goal, we're seeking individuals with a strong background in quantum technology to join our expanding team. The position will entail the following:

• Identify key companies in the evolving quantum market and enable new business opportunities.

• Collaborate with process, hardware, integration, and metrology teams to design and develop new quantum sensing devices.

• Explore new growth areas leveraging Applied’s expertise in precision materials engineering.

Requirements

• Student must be pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Physics, Materials Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

• Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.

• Knowledge and research experience in any of the following or similar quantum technologies: solid‑state spin qubits (e.g., NV‑diamond), vapor cells, Rydberg sensors, frequency combs, transducers for quantum interconnects, nonlinear optics, SQUIDs, single‑photon sources.

• Experience in semiconductor processing and compact quantum devices is preferred.

• Background in business development is a plus.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
