Apple is seeking an enthusiastic leader to direct and grow the capabilities of the Retail and Events Product Design (REPD) and Channel Store Product Design (CSPD) teams. We are a diverse group of engineers who design integrated hardware solutions for retail spaces and special Apple events like new product announcements, developer conferences, and store openings. These solutions are engineered to showcase the product, enrich the customer experience, minimize environmental impact, and champion the Apple design approach
Your team's scope of ownership will span technology development and concept generation to detailed design, analysis, and testing through mass production of simple to complex electromechanical assemblies as well as small to large furniture elements. We operate under much ambiguity, and you should be skilled in bringing clarity to your team and peers. We value leaders who can provide both deep technical insight along with a commitment to developing the skills and capabilities of the team. We are seeking excellent communicators who are able to fluently debate and strategize with cross functional partners, present to executive leadership, and motivate growth within your team.

Description:

You and your team will have a uniquely rewarding opportunity to drive product definition of new generations of retail displays and merchandisers while collaborating with teams from Industrial Design and Visual Merchandising, to Manufacturing and Operations. Through it all, you will be given ownership of designs that will surprise and delight customers in what is often their first interactions with a new Apple product.","responsibilities":"lead a 10-15 person PD team, define a vision for the team's growth and success, and guide team towards goals that support the vision

enable team to develop initial product architectures and new technology concept investigations

define processes and workflows for optimizing high quality outputs in 3D CAD, 2D drawings, and tolerance analyses

conduct design reviews and guide technical teams to reach alignment on design paths and next steps

develop and grow first and second level managers; leverage experience in people management to resolve personal, performance, behavioral, project and career-related situations

define the team's roadmap, clarifying product definition and scope with key partners

identify resourcing gaps and potential solutions, infrastructure and capex needs

identify new areas of technology, growth, and value for Apple

Preferred Qualifications:

M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

Experience working in a collaborative environment and self-motivation to identify and drive resolution on design issues across multiple projects

Highly effective communication skills: ability to clearly explain complex issues to a variety of audiences, think about the big picture when communicating, and report technical details succinctly

Ability to articulate design issues in quantitative terms both verbally and with documentation

Passion for functional design and an appreciation for detail

Experience designing with wood and large scale structures

Minimum Qualifications:

B.S. degree in mechanical engineering or related field

12+ years proven experience in mechanical engineering leading complex electromechanical programs with multiple supporting modules

5+ years leading programs and mentoring others

Strong analytical skills with regard to engineering theory

ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10% of time)

Pay & Benefits:

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $228,100 and $393,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition.
