About the role:
We are looking for Engineering Managers to join our Product Foundations org to lead and grow teams of software engineers working on foundational platform capabilities. You'll be responsible for defining and executing the creation of shared product capabilities at the core of Anthropic's product surfaces, while maintaining clear direction and stability for your team.
You'll partner closely with product managers, engineering leadership, talented engineers and research teams to transform emerging AI capabilities into platform capabilities. Success in this role requires a strong ability to understand stakeholder needs, identify opportunities to share capabilities across products, understand our product and roadmap deeply, and the ability to facilitate rapid iterations to improve our product suite.
We have multiple teams that are currently hiring. Team placement occurs after the interview process, taking into account your interests and experience alongside organizational needs:
Product Platform: We provide shared product capabilities leveraged by Claude.ai, API and other internal teams. You'll lead engineers working on core platform components like rate limiting, LLM sampling and multimodal processing. This team is based in Seattle and San Francisco.
Accounts Platform: We build and maintain critical infrastructure that powers identity and authentication across Anthropic's product suite. You'll lead cross-functional platform efforts supporting authentication, identity management, OAuth, Enterprise SSO/SCIM, and key management across Claude.ai, Claude Code, and API users. This team is based in New York.
About Product Foundations:
Product Foundations serves as an internal capabilities team building product infrastructure, shared components and focusing significant energy on cross functional efforts including reliability, latency and efficiency. Our mandate is to build and maintain the foundational platforms, infrastructure and abstractions that enable Anthropic's products to operate securely, reliably, and efficiently at scale while accelerating product development across the organization. We embed with product engineering teams to provide platform perspective, build shared mvp capabilities, and align to a shared vision for success.
Responsibilities:

Lead and coach a high-performing team of software engineers through the complexities of 0-1 platform development

Partner effectively with engineering and product leaders to align on direction and execution

Create a balanced environment that encourages both iterative improvement and rigorous evaluation
-
Provide clear, actionable feedback and support for engineer growth and development
-
Help partner teams develop approaches for sharing capabilities and partnering to evolve our platform alongside the sophistication of our products and users

Drive adoption of platform capabilities and learnings to inform company-wide product strategy and planning
-
Represent the platform perspective and roadmap in discussions with research, product, and leadership stakeholders
You may be a good fit if you have:

Have 3+ years of engineering management experience leading high-performing teams in ambiguous, early-stage environments

Excel at creating psychological safety and helping teams navigate uncertainty

Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to guide teams through rapidly evolving organization priorities while building underlying stable platforms

Have excellent cross-functional leadership skills to build alignment between research, engineering and product
-
Are skilled at facilitating decision-making rather than imposing solutions

Have expertise in mentoring and investing energy into team culture
-
Have excellent communication skills to represent the importance of and need to invest in platform capabilities at the core of our products

Have a comprehensive technical understanding of modern software product development processes and technical stacks. Experience of AI/ML is a bonus

Care deeply about responsibly pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities in service of Anthropic's mission
Strong candidates may also have experience with:

Building products from zero to one in a startup environment
-
Expertise in modern web development stacks (React, Next.js, etc)

Experience working on AI/ML products
-
Experience with identity management, authentication systems, and enterprise security standards

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.
For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.
Annual Salary:
$320,000—$405,000 USD
Logistics
Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
