SMX Product Applications Engineer

The Precision Switch (SMX) team is seeking a motivated, product applications engineer to provide support to our Instrumentation business unit located at ADI’s ERDC site in Limerick Ireland. This growing SMX team is responsible for the development and product support of analog precision switches and multiplexer parts the largest portfolio in the industry. Developed in Limerick and in the Philippines, these industry leading products utilize Analog’s precision CMOS process technology to serve a multitude of end market applications. The successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to support this essential product function in a wide range of markets which include industrial process control, test instrumentation, health care, aerospace, automotive, communication infrastructure and consumer applications. This role will involve working on all new product development aspects from concept to release stage, including customer support, demonstration system design and testing providing the candidate the ability to touch all elements of the organization.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Be responsible for Precision CMOS Switch and Multiplexer design-in successes for assigned released products and products under development
  • Create and produce design-in tools that reinforce a product’s customer value proposition. These include but are not limited to: evaluation boards, demonstration systems, on-line calculator tools and technical literature (datasheets, user guides, application notes, circuit note reference designs, technical seminars, FAQs, and trade press articles)
  • Participate in customer engagement activities associated with the development of assigned Precision CMOS Switch and Multiplexer product concepts through to product definition. Work with customers and Marketing/Design/Field Applications/Market Segment communities to help define new products for the switch and multiplexer portfolio
  • Help develop training activities for customers, Field Application Engineers, Sales Engineers and distributors. Actively participate in the EZone forum (ez.analog.com) to support switch and multiplexer customer questions
  • Develop and validate product simulation models using LTSPICE

Minimum qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Communication with our customers and our sales/field applications engineers requires an outgoing personality with a pleasant and professional manner. Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written, are a key requirement.
  • Experience with CMOS switches or similar precision control products from a design or a usage perspective would be desirable
  • An understanding of circuit simulation tools and SPICE modelling would be desirable.

Examples include LTSPICE and ADS:

  • The role is primarily hardware-based, but proficiency in software is also desirable for complete systems understanding and design-in tool development, examples include LabVIEW, C# or C
  • Familiarity with commonly used electronic test equipment is important, examples include Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, Vector Network Analyzers
  • RF PCB schematic design and layout experience is desirable

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or an equivalent professional qualification.

  • For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S.

  • Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the U.S.

Department of State:

  • Directorate of Defense Trade Controls. As such, applicants for this position – except US Citizens, US Permanent Residents, and protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) – may have to go through an export licensing review process.
