Industrial Ethernet SW architect:

We are looking for a visionary software architect to lead the design and development of next-generation industrial connectivity solutions. In this role, you will bridge the gap between low-level embedded hardware and high-level industrial networks. You will be responsible for

  • Expanding out the Product definition from Product requirements, clarifying, modifying or adding Product requirements
  • architect the relationship between the HW and SW to ensure optimized performance & reliability in real world use cases
  • fill out the technical gaps we need defined in the product to make it competitive
  • defining the architecture of embedded products that enable seamless, secure, and deterministic communication across the machine layer, utilizing both traditional industrial protocols and modern Software Defined Networking (SDN) principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Architecture: Expanding the product definition from product requirements into software requirements. Define what HW blocks are required from a SW architecture to ensure real-time performance and scalability.
  • SDN & Virtualization: Architect solutions that leverage Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) within industrial contexts to improve network agility and management.
  • Machine Layer Tooling: Design and oversee the development of configuration tools, diagnostic software, and digital twin interfaces used at the machine and factory floor levels.
  • Security by Design: Understanding of robust cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., IEC 62443) and requirements into the connectivity fabric, covering secure boot, encrypted telemetry, and identity management.
  • Tech Leadership: Provide technical mentorship to firmware and software engineering teams, conducting architectural reviews and proof-of-concepts (Po Cs).

Technical Requirements
1. Architecture

  • Deep understanding of software architecture at various layers of industrial networking and how product definition translates into software requirements.
  • Understanding of how HW and SW architectures ensure optimized performance and reliability.

Good understanding of industrial connectivity use cases at different layers of Industrial automation to define scenarios for testing use cases.

1.

Industrial Domain Expertise:

  • Deep understanding of the OSI Model as applied to Industrial Ethernet and Fieldbus technologies.
  • Proven experience with OPC UA (including Pub/Sub models) and its role in Industry 4.0.
  • Knowledge of deterministic networking and synchronization protocols like PTP (IEEE 1588).

2.

Embedded & Networking Skills:

  • Expertise in C/C++ for resource-constrained environments and RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, QNX).
  • Strong grasp of L2/L3 networking protocols and socket programming.
  • Experience with SDN controllers (e.g., Open Daylight, ONOS) and southbound APIs like Open Flow or NETCONF/YANG.
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel networking stacks and DPDK/XDP for high-performance data planes.

3.

Tools & Machine Layer:

  • Experience building or using industrial configuration tools (e.g., TIA Portal, PLCnext, or custom Engineering Stations).
  • Knowledge of network management, Software Defined networking, Network discovery, Virtual Twins, layers of Industrial Automation and their mapping into software requirements for Industrial HW devices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with at least 4 years in a dedicated Architect role within the Industrial Automation or Semiconductor space.
  • Education: Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Soft Skills: Ability to translate complex "machine-speak" into clear architectural blueprints for stakeholders and developers alike.

*For positions requiring access to technical data, Analog Devices, Inc. may have to obtain export licensing approval from the U.S.

Department of Commerce:
