Staff Relations Manager
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be responsible for providing expert employee relations (ER) guidance and support to managers and staff across Amgen’s Latin America (LATAM) region, United States and Puerto Rico.
Staff Relations is a specialized Human Resources function that partners closely with regional HR Leaders, Business Managers, Compliance, Legal, other HR Centers of Excellence and team members to protect Amgen values, investigate potential violations of HR policies, provide practical advice and guidance on coaching staff and managers, and advise on performance and behaviors management, discipline, involuntary terminations, and workplace accommodations.
- Provide practical and legally appropriate staff relations guidance on performance management, disciplinary action, and workplace conflict to HR partners and business leaders in LATAM, Puerto Rico and the United States. Participate in termination discussions and corrective actions with staff and leaders as needed.
- Conduct and document thorough, impartial, and timely HR investigations, maintaining confidentiality and objectivity. Determine findings of fact and violations of policy and prepare clear, concise investigation summaries and supporting documentation to support these findings.
- Partner with the Occupational Heath, staff and managers to analyze and respond to leaves of absence, return to work following them, and reasonable accommodation requests.
- Partner with local and regional HR Business Partners and Staff Relations team to ensure culturally nuanced and compliant ER practices.
- Track and update cases in the company’s case management system.
- Assist the Regional Staff Relations Lead in implementing process improvements, training, and ER best practices.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Legal, and Learning & Development teams to deliver training on HR policies, investigations, and respectful workplace behaviors.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree
Or
Master’s degree and 2 years of Staff Relations experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Staff Relations experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong Human Resources background with 4+ years of experience in Employee Relations
- Experience advising on performance management, discipline, and involuntary terminations of employment
- Knowledge and experience of employment laws and ER practices across LATAM and the U.S.
- Experience conducting internal HR investigations is desirable
- Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to learn and fairly apply company policy, investigation procedures, and regulatory guidelines within scope of duties
- Experience working across different countries and cultures, with a commitment to educating oneself on cultural norms and varying laws
- Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism in handling complex and confidential matters.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, Teams/Web Ex, Workday, and case management systems such as Ethics Point.
