Job Description

Job Description:

At Amgen, our shared mission—to serve patients—drives all that we do. It is key to our becoming one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies. We are global collaborators who achieve together—researching, developing, and delivering ever-better products that reach over 10 million patients worldwide.

We are currently seeking a **Principal Image Analysis Scientist, Digital Pathology,**based in **India,**to join our growing Computational Imaging and Digital Biomarkers team and advance the use of artificial intelligence for medical image analysis. This role will focus on developing and applying cutting-edge algorithms to imaging data, with the goal of enabling new insights to drive precision medicine strategies. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise in computer vision and AI to interrogate complex microscopy (standard H&Es, IHC, and high-plex IF) and spatial omics data, driving innovations in biomarker discovery, companion diagnostics, and precision medicine.

Live – What you will do

In this vital role, you will:

  • Design, implement, and optimize machine learning and AI-based algorithms for image analysis, segmentation, classification, and prediction tasks.
  • Explore and evaluate novel approaches in deep learning, computer vision, and generative modeling applied to digital pathology datasets.
  • Develop robust pipelines for preprocessing, quality control, and large-scale analysis of multi-modal imaging datasets (chromogenic, multiplex IF, spatial-omics).
  • Establish rigorous evaluation frameworks, including internal benchmarking against ground truth data and external validation datasets.
  • Contribute to reproducibility and scalability of AI methods for clinical and research applications.
  • Partner with pathologists and data scientists to translate clinical challenges into computational problems.
  • Train junior analysts and support onboarding of new staff
  • Document image processing workflows in compliance with internal SOPs
  • Collaborate with global teams to align imaging deliverables with project timelines
  • Contribute to the integration of AI technologies in imaging workflows and digital pathology applications

Win – What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master’s degree (with 8-10 years of experience) in Life Sciences, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
  • Strong background in computer vision, image analysis, and machine learning/deep learning.
  • Demonstrated experience working with biomedical imaging data (pathology preferred).
  • Proven track record in developing, validating, and deploying advanced computer vision and deep learning algorithms, including contributions to released products.
  • Proficiency in Python and common ML frameworks (e.g., Tensor Flow, Py Torch).
  • Deep understanding of image analysis methods such as segmentation, object detection, and classification, ideally within digital pathology (e.g., histopathology, tissue imaging) and/or spatial omics.
  • Familiarity with large-scale data management and cloud-based computational environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in commercial image analysis platforms such as HALO,Visiopharm, Qu Path, etc.
  • Experience with digital pathology (whole-slide images).
  • Strong publication record in computational imaging, AI, or medical image analysis.
  • Background in spatial omics and the ability to combine molecular profiles with imaging analysis.
  • Solid understanding of precision medicine concepts, including biomarker discovery, patient stratification, and personalized therapeutic approaches.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and enthusiasm for learning and applying new technologies and methodologies.

Thrive – What you can expect of us

As we work to develop treatments that take care of others, we also work to care for our teammates’ professional growth and well-being:

  • A collaborative and diverse global team environment
  • Opportunities to work with cutting-edge technologies in biomedical research
  • Training and mentoring to support your career path
  • Flexibility in work arrangements and work-life balance
