Job Description

The Specialist IS Engineer will assist in designing, developing, and maintaining applications and associated data engineering solutions that meet business needs and ensuring the availability and performance of critical systems. This role involves working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to create high-quality, scalable solutions and automating operations, monitoring system health, and responding to incidents to minimize downtime.

You will be part of a team specifically focused on Amgen’s Commercialization business. Amgen is using fully integrated and best-in-class technologies, having various enterprise platforms such as AWS, Databricks, Salesforce, Planisware and Anaplan; enterprise collaboration platforms such as O365, Share Point Online and MS Teams, as well as vertical-specific platforms in R&D, Operations, Process Development and Commercial/Marketing areas.

This role will manage the Amgen India Commercialization Technology product team members and be part of the R&D Informatics organization. They should also have experience leading and effectively working with large, diverse and globally dispersed teams within a matrixed organization. Extensive collaboration with global cross functional teams is required to ensure seamless integration and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the end-to-end software development lifecycle, experience with data integration, experience leading or mentoring junior engineers, and be a Scaled Agile practitioner, coupled with leadership and transformation experience. This role demands the ability to drive and deliver against key organizational critical initiatives and deliver high-quality results in a matrixed organizational structure.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement of software applications and modules
  • Take ownership of Development/configuration of user stories in collaboration with the Technical Product Owner and Technical Lead
  • Create and maintain documentation on design and configuration
  • Develop prototypes and proof-of-concepts
  • Contribute to both front-end and back-end development tasks using various Amgen preferred platforms/tools
  • Work with the team to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, escalating when needed
  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into development tasks
  • Execute unit and integration tests, and contribute to maintaining software and data quality
  • Identify and fix bugs and defects during development or testing phases
  • Contribute to the maintenance and support of solutions by monitoring performance and reporting issues
  • Lead development CI/CD pipelines as part of DevOps practices and assist in the release process
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers

Basic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s /Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with minimum 8 - 12 Years of Experience.

Functional Skills:

Must-Have Skills

  • Working experience in Agile or Scrum methodologies
  • Proficiency with cloud-based platforms (AWS) and system integration
  • Working knowledge of version control systems like Git & Release management tools
  • Fluent in enterprise collaboration platforms such as O365, Share Point Online and MS Teams
  • Incorporate AI tools in daily activities as well as proactively seeking opportunities to utilize and extend AI toolsets into development work
  • Direct experience managing and/or coaching technical staff
  • Direct experience in working in global teams
  • Mastery with at least one programming language (Python, React, or similar)
  • Ability to balance strategic architecture with practical implementation, ensuring designs are executable and sustainable
  • Broad interest in various Amgen preferred platforms/tools
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in an engineering environment
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively

Good-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with Amgen’s enterprise platforms (AWS, Databricks, SAP, Salesforce, Planisware)
  • Experience with Smartsheet/Excel/Tableau/Spotfire
  • Knowledge of Python/R, Databricks, cloud data platforms
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, tools, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of data protection regulations and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR)
  • Strong experience in solution design and architecture including system/data integration and scalability
  • Experience with popular large language models
  • Experience with prompt engineering, model fine tuning
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) or Generative AI systems, particularly in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or data augmentation contexts.
  • Certifications related to Agile or any software or cloud platform are advantageous

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable to work effectively with global, virtual teams
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation
