Cores Post‑Silicon Validation (Microcode)

Role Summary:

We are seeking a CPU Validation engineer with good microcode (u Code) understanding to support post‑silicon validation of CPU cores. This role focuses on executing validation scenarios, triaging failures with u Code involvement, and working closely with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams (Design, u Code, FW, BIOS, DF/Platform) to identify and root‑cause silicon issues.

The engineer will contribute to validating core functionality, reliability, and corner‑case behavior where u Code and hardware interactions are critical.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute post‑silicon validation of CPU cores, with focus on u Code‑dependent flows
  • Run and analyze core stress, functional, and long‑run workloads that exercise u Code paths
  • Triage failures involving u Code, core microarchitecture, BIOS, firmware, and platform interactions
  • Assist in root‑cause analysis using logs, MCA records, MSRs, hangs, and crash signatures
  • Validate u Code patches, workarounds, and fixes under guidance from senior engineers
  • Help reproduce customer‑ or lab‑observed issues in controlled environments
  • Track execution status, failures, and coverage metrics and report findings clearly
  • Support execution across Linux and Windows environments
  • Collaborate closely with u Code owners and core design teams during debug cycles

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Understanding of microcode (u Code) concepts and its interaction with CPU cores
  • Good knowledge of x86 architecture fundamentals (core pipeline basics, exceptions, interrupts, privilege levels)
  • Experience or familiarity with system‑level debug and failure analysis
  • Working knowledge of Linux OS internals
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.

AMD does not accept unsolicited resumes from headhunters, recruitment agencies, or fee-based recruitment services. AMD and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
