The AECG x86 Embedded Team builds and optimizes x86 platforms for embedded and commercial applications, working across silicon, firmware, and software to deliver reliable, high‑performance solutions at scale.
THE ROLE:
Define and create AMD’s solutions for earth-orbiting satellites and deep space systems! You’ll specify the reference designs, product features, and IP our FPGA, adaptive SoC and X86 processor customers need as they create the next generation of space payloads for communications, remote sensing, precision navigation and timing, and physical sciences. You’ll be part of a dynamic team of experienced system architects within AMD’s aerospace and defense vertical marketing team, where your vision for technological capabilities in the fields of space payload design, RF and digital engineering, space radiation effects, reliability and qualification for space-flight is matched by your passion for creating solutions that help our customers be successful.
THE PERSON:
We’re looking for someone who’s deeply experienced in space system design and is able to translate that experience into a vision of future generation system capabilities. We need someone who can clearly communicate their ideas into cross-functional teams internally and into the customer community externally. The successful candidate seeks new knowledge, listens carefully to customers’ needs, influences with data and examples, and pursues the win-win for our customers and for AMD. They are equally capable of working alone and in small groups to develop specifications and definitions, and presenting out their ideas and results in large team meetings and at industry conferences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define and specify capabilities and requirements for future AMD FPGAs, adaptive So Cs and X86 processors for space applications, tools and IP, and achieve alignment with AMD product planning teams
- Identify the key customer requirements for product qualification, reliability testing, and characterization of radiation effects, drive those requirements internally and communicate status to the customer community
- Identify, characterize and communicate value propositions that positively differentiate AMD products from competing solutions in the field of space systems
- Define and specify space reference designs that showcase the capabilities of AMD products, leveraging reference and demo designs in adjacent fields such as radar, communications, image detection and classification, and AI, and guide internal and external cross-functional teams in the execution and delivery of these reference designs
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key space customers and industry authorities such as NASA, ESA, DoW, and leverage these relationships to gain additional insight into future market requirements
- Provide expertise and guidance to customers developing space systems
- Create content promoting the capabilities of AMD FPGAs, adaptive So Cs and X86 CPUs, and deliver in sales training presentations, customer meetings, media articles and industry conferences
- Provide input related to the space market to the AMD business planning process
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 10 years’ experience design engineering or systems engineering in the field of satellite and other space-flight systems
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in development and implementation of FPGA designs
- Experience with design and systems engineering for high-reliability applications
- Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence inferencing
- Experience with MATLAB, C or C++, AMD Vivado and Vitis tools
- Experience with product ownership, managing internal schedules and specifications, defining product value proposition and setting pricing
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated, capable of working remotely in a geographically dispersed team
- US Citizen required. DoW clearance at TS-SCI preferred.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering or similar technical field
LOCATION:
USA.
- Reports to San Jose, CA; remote work location in USA is OK
- Requires domestic and international travel up to 20% of time
