Graduate DevOps Engineer - 6 month FTC

LOCATION: Cologne

TERM: 6 month fixed term contract

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Graduate DevOps Engineer at AMD, you will be an integral part of the DevOps team, contributing directly to the development, delivery, and reliability of our next generation of technology innovations. This role is designed for recent graduates who are ready to transition into a professional DevOps environment, build strong technical foundations, and grow their careers with hands-on responsibility, mentorship, and real-world impact.

You will work closely with experienced engineers, gain exposure to large-scale systems, and play an active role in improving our development and release infrastructure while maintaining high quality and reliability standards.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Join the DevOps team and contribute to the smooth operation of software development, integration, and release processes
  • Support the maintenance, extension, and continuous improvement of our development and CI/CD infrastructure
  • Help ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of our systems
  • Collaborate closely with software developers to understand requirements and design efficient, automated workflows
  • Contribute to infrastructure automation, monitoring, and tooling to improve developer productivity and software quality
  • Participate in code reviews, incident analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • A recent graduate (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Hands-on experience working in a Linux environment, including command-line proficiency and use of version control systems (ideally Git)
  • Practical experience writing scripts or small tools in Python (or a similar scripting language)
  • A strong interest in DevOps practices, automation, and modern software delivery
  • Fluent in English, with strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A proactive, result-oriented problem solver who takes ownership of their work
  • Comfortable working both as part of a team and independently
  • Eager to learn, open to feedback, and motivated to continuously improve technical skills
  • EU citizen or holder of a valid German work permit (visa sponsorship is not available for this role)

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART

  • Experience with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar tools
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and service-based architectures
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker; experience with Kubernetes and monitoring Kubernetes clusters is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of build systems, artifact repositories, configuration management tools, or package managers
  • Contributions to open-source projects or personal technical projects demonstrating curiosity and initiative
