Lab Manager - CPU/Cores Post Silicon Validation

The Lab Manager is responsible for managing, maintaining, assembling, bringing up, and supporting large volumes of compute systems used for platform bring‑up, volume validation, and firmware development. The role includes system assembly, firmware flashing, remote access enablement, boot failure triage, and thermal/chiller setup management, while ensuring reliable operation of ~300 lab systems. I nventory & Documentation: Maintain a meticulous record of hardware assets, engineering samples (ES), and lab equipment using inventory management software.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble workstation systems and perform initial bring‑up and power‑on validation.
- Flash and maintain BIOS/UEFI, BMC, CPLD, u Code, and platform firmware.
- Install, image, and re‑image operating systems as required.
- Enable and validate remote access (BMC, serial console, KVM, SSH, remote power).
- Diagnose and triage boot failures (no‑POST, BIOS hang, OS boot issues).
- Perform basic hardware debug: reseating, component swaps, cable checks, and log capture.
- Set up, operate, and monitor thermal solutions including chillers, cold plates, heat exchangers, and temperature sensors.
- Coordinate thermal hookups, coolant flow checks, leak checks, and safe operation during bring‑up and validation.
- Own daily operation and health of ~300 lab systems, ensuring uptime and readiness.
- Track system inventory, configurations, firmware levels, thermal setups, and issues using standard trackers.
- Coordinate with platform, BIOS, firmware, validation, IT, facilities, and EHS teams for lab and thermal readiness.
- Follow lab SOPs, safety, and security requirements, especially for thermal and liquid‑cooling environments.
Required Skills & Experience
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Soldering Expertise: Proven experience in precision soldering under a microscope; certification (e.g., IPC-A-610) is a significant plus.
- Platform Knowledge: Familiarity with modern microprocessor architectures (x86, ARM) and high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR4/5).
- Lab Tools: Proficiency with DMMs, Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, and BIOS flashing tools.
- Soft Skills: Ability to work in a fast-paced R&D environment and maintain a highly organized workspace.
- Hands‑on experience with system assembly and hardware bring‑up.
- Experience with firmware flashing and OS installation.
- Familiarity with thermal/chiller setups and liquid‑cooling lab environments.
- Ability to debug basic hardware, boot, and thermal issues.
- Comfortable working with remote management tools and command‑line environments.
- Ability to manage and support large system counts in a lab environment.
