About the role

AWS's largest and most strategic customers depend on our products as their primary source of cost and usage data. We're looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to build and scale the systems that assemble and deliver AWS cost and usage reports to these customers. You'll work on the data export platform behind Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), CUR 2.0, Data Exports, and Classic Reports — tackling hard problems in data accuracy, conformance, delivery latency, and report generation at massive scale.

  • Key job responsibilities
  • Design and implement large-scale data assembly and report delivery systems handling trillions of line items
  • Build and optimize pipelines for throughput, delivery latency, and cost efficiency
  • Drive technical decisions on architecture, data modeling, and system design
  • Lead projects to completion — decomposing work for parallel execution and reassembling into cohesive launches
  • Proactively simplify code and resolve architecture deficiencies (performance, scaling, operational gaps)
  • Mentor engineers, lead design and code reviews, and contribute to team-wide engineering standards
  • Own operational excellence for your systems — including monitoring, alarming, runbooks, and on-call

A day in the life
You'll spend your time deep in the code — designing, building, and optimizing the systems that assemble and deliver cost reports to AWS customers. On any given day you might be improving report generation throughput, working with teammates to reduce delivery latency, or scaling the platform to handle the next order-of-magnitude growth in AWS usage records. You'll collaborate closely with partner teams across Billing, AWS, and product managers and service owners to ensure the reports customers receive are accurate, timely, and complete. This is a hands-on engineering role where you're both shipping code and helping the engineers around you ship better code.

About the team
AWS Insights Reporting owns the products that turn raw cost and usage data into actionable reports customers use to manage their AWS investments. Enterprise customers make large dollar-value decisions based on the timeliness, accuracy, and detail of the data we deliver. We assemble trillions of line items daily into reports that span every AWS service, every region, and every account — and we do it on a platform that must scale with AWS' expanding business. Our products include AWS Data Exports, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR/CUR 2.0), and Classic Reports.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
