Hardware Development Manager, Devices

Amazon Lab126 is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high-profile consumer electronics. Lab126 began in 2004 as a subsidiary of Amazon.com, Inc., originally creating the best-selling Kindle family of products. Since then, we have produced ground breaking devices like Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV and Amazon Echo, etc.

The Role:

As a Hardware Development manager, you will manage team of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced start-up like environment. In your manager role, you and your team will be the owner of all aspects of hardware design, including circuit/board design, hardware validation, mechanical design and cost-effective work related to hardware design. To be successful, you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing highest standards of responsibilities. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to identify opportunities to drive efficiencies for the team's deliverables.

• Key job responsibilities
• Lead and manage a team of electrical and mechanical engineers, providing them technical guidance and mentorship while fostering a supportive and high-performing team culture.
• Drive organizational alignment for the team to ensure you can broaden the teams impact while mitigating risks.
• Drive team to deep dive complex issue analysis
• Lead team to carry out hardware design changes to improve quality.
• Lead team to identify opportunities and mechanisms to improve the team influence and business impact, such as cost-effective opportunities, cost avoidance
• Work with vendors and CMs to ensure engagement models and associated requirements are streamlined

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 7+ years of new hardware products development experience
• 3+ years of Experience in leading a multi-disciplinary team directly responsible for hardware design.
• Experience with the project management of technical projects

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Power Engineering, or a related field
• Experience developing products for large volume production
• Experience managing teams of 8+ engineers
