We are looking for a passionate Software Development Manager to lead our device software into the next generation. We need someone who can support our current product line while driving innovation for our Hardware and software features. To excel in this role, you'll need to be a seasoned leader with experience in leading software teams. You'll be making crucial decisions on design, staffing, requirements, and timelines, balancing risks and trade offs.

In this position, you'll collaborate with partner with local and worldwide teams to shape the future of Ring devices and services. Your focus will be on creating easy-to-use products that run efficiently on minimal power. You'll lead our firmware efforts, bringing new consumer products to market and interacting with teams across Ring, Blink, and Amazon.

  • Lead a team delivering features and bug-fixes for Blink and Ring products portfolio.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software.
  • Assure the right firmware strategy and architecture is applied by the team.
  • Work across teams to manage dependencies and align on engineering work and timelines.
  • Collaborate with business, and other internal teams to define and own features.
  • Proactively solve day-to-day challenges and exercise sound judgment.
  • Remove barriers to execution for the team.
  • Define and execute process improvements to allow the team to improve over time.
  • Mentor, hire, and retain excellent engineers.
  • Drive best practices and engineering excellence.

A day in the life
The Software Development Manager will work with their team to deliver device software capabilities to enhance customer experiences with connected devices. You will work closely with your stakeholders to prioritize and schedule engineering work. You will be responsible for all engineering team members, coaching and mentoring as they work to execute a set of agile stories to deliver the required features. You will also work with your direct reports to remove roadblocks, help with career development and coach the team on best practices and agile processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
  • Knowledge of computer science fundamentals such as object-oriented design, operating systems, algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis
  • 2+ years of engineering team management experience
  • Experience in embedded wireless systems, or experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
  • Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
  • Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines, or experience in a fast-paced, high-tech company
  • Experience delivering results for large, cross-functional initiatives/projects
  • Proficiency of the tools of the trade, including modern programming languages (C/C++, Python) and open-source technologies (Linux, RTOS) with broad hands-on experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
