World Wide Engineering & Innovation (WWEI) is seeking an Industrial Design Engineer to support integration and deployment of next-generation automation solutions across sortation, transportation, and fulfillment operations. This is a high-visibility role responsible for translating new automation products from development into scalable operational solutions. The Industrial Design Engineer will lead site-level integration, develop layouts, define operational workflows, and ensure seamless interaction between new automation products and existing material handling equipment, controls architecture, and facility constraints.
The role will work closely with hardware engineering teams during product development to influence design for deployment, maintainability, and scalability. You will own how products integrate with upstream and downstream MHE systems, define performance expectations, and validate operational readiness through pilot execution. This position will also own product performance tracking, including defining KPIs, analyzing operational data, identifying gaps, and determining readiness for broader deployment. The engineer will play a key role in recommending scale decisions and influencing long-term automation strategy.
This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with engineering, operations, safety, maintenance, finance, and technology teams, as well as external vendors. Responsibilities include supporting pilot planning, installation execution, site retrofits, FAT/SAT validation, and post-deployment performance monitoring. The ideal candidate will drive structured problem solving, develop deployment standards, and help build repeatable integration frameworks for scaling automation products across multiple facilities. This is a highly visible position offering the opportunity to shape automation strategy, influence product development, and deliver impactful solutions across a global logistics network.
Key job responsibilities
The Industrial Design Engineer will lead site-level integration and deployment of automation solutions from pilot through scaled rollout. This role is responsible for developing facility layouts, defining operational workflows, and ensuring seamless integration between new automation products and existing material handling equipment. The engineer will partner closely with hardware development teams to influence product design for deployability, maintainability, and operational performance, while owning how solutions interface with upstream and downstream systems.
This role will support pilot planning, installation execution, and site retrofits, including coordination with operations, safety, maintenance, and vendor partners. The Industrial Design Engineer will define product performance metrics, monitor operational KPIs, and evaluate readiness for scale based on reliability, throughput, and operational impact. The position also requires identifying integration risks, driving mitigation plans, and improving deployment standards.
The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to develop repeatable deployment models, support FAT/SAT activities, and validate operational performance. This role will also influence long-term automation decisions by providing data-driven recommendations, improving integration frameworks, and supporting scalable rollout strategies across multiple sites.
A day in the life
As an Industrial Design Engineer in WWEI Automation, you will work at the intersection of product development and real-world deployment. A typical day includes collaborating with hardware engineering teams to review product designs and ensure solutions integrate seamlessly with existing material handling equipment and facility layouts. You may spend time developing site-specific layouts, defining operational workflows, and evaluating constraints for pilot deployments. The role also involves coordinating with operations, safety, and maintenance teams to plan installations, review risks, and support deployment readiness.
You will monitor pilot performance, analyze throughput and reliability metrics, and identify improvements required for scaling. The engineer also partners with vendors during installation and testing, supports FAT/SAT activities, and helps resolve integration issues. Throughout the day, you will engage with cross-functional stakeholders to unblock execution, influence product improvements, and ensure automation solutions meet operational needs across multiple sites.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related experience
- Experience in Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related work
- Experience in management of engineering design projects
- Bachelor's degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering (any domain) or foreign equivalent, Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with design-in-safety
- Experience with process design based on Lean Principles

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
