Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Data Center Civil Engineer to become part of the Data Center Template Engineering team. This engineer will be located in either Herndon VA or Seattle WA.

As the Civil Engineer you will be responsible for the Civil Engineering infrastructure strategy and continuous product innovation and development to support our rapidly expanding global data center footprint. AWS Data Centers are a major component of worldwide cloud-computing infrastructure and are industry leading examples of critical facilities.

• Key job responsibilities
• Create, review and release data center Civil Engineering improvements and designs for the next gen data center design.
• Provide relevant feedback into Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for civil engineering systems.
• Serve as a technical advisor for AWS DC design projects.
• Create, review and release architectural/civil/structural design RFPs.
• Manage our external architectural/civil/structural design consultants.
• Coordinate with internal and external MEP/C/S design engineers. Effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
• Lead initiatives aimed at improving cost, quality, schedule, and consistency.
• Manage multiple fast paced projects simultaneously.
• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, interface with AHJs and design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.

A day in the life
Amazon has a global presence; therefore 30% to 40% travel will be necessary. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary with short notice. Support could consist of auditing/inspecting data centers, working on international teams and could require developing schematic and design document packages for both global future and existing sites. In this role you will need the ability and willingness to travel for site walks and field observations internationally/domestically with short notice.

Basic Qualifications

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
• 5+ years of commercial, land development, or data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience
• 2+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
• Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, REVIT, BIM 360, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
