A day in the life
As a Software Development Engineer on our team, you'll engage with the full software development lifecycle—from initial design conversations through deployment and operations. You might start your day reviewing a proposal to optimize tax calculation performance, then move into code review with teammates, discussing architectural approaches to handle increased transaction volume. You'll write and test code in our Java, Linux, and Oracle-based environment, collaborate with engineers across different Amazon business units to understand their tax requirements, and participate in on-call rotations to ensure our services remain reliable. Your work directly influences how quickly and accurately customers receive tax information at checkout, and you'll see the real-world impact of your contributions through our monitoring and metrics.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
