The AWS Usage Forecast Planning team partners with all AWS service teams to forecast, plan and build the world's largest Cloud infrastructure. Come make history!

We own software systems for generating a reliable, feasible and explainable Usage Plans for all the AWS Services. Our goal is to be able to simulate the usage plans with revenue, cost and efficiency implications in a faster, reliable and explainable way. Our main objective is to perform usage planning to create forecast which helps power all the AWS services physical infrastructure needs. As part of EC2 Core Platform, we aim to strike a nimble balance between capacity availability and utilization.

We provide usage forecasts for all AWS services and automate the planning of hardware to support our rapidly growing business. We apply advanced forecasting, data mining, and machine learning techniques to predict customer demand growth. We also build supportability models for foundational AWS services and identify their planning bottlenecks to serve ever-increasing customer demand. Combining the usage forecast and the supportability models, we generate plan of record that optimize across customer experience and hardware utilization. Our software drives the many billions of dollars in Cap Ex that AWS spends every year, and our projects help improve AWS utilization to reduce Cap Ex by 100s of millions of dollars every year.

On technology front, we use Scala, Java, Python, JavaScript, Lambda, DynamoDB, as well as other public AWS services and Amazon-internal tools. We are looking for someone who is passionate about data and problem solving. We don’t expect you to be an expert in-- or necessarily familiar with-- all of these technologies, but we expect you to be excited to learn.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to work in a full-stack development role.

Key job responsibilities
Our team owns a family of products that facilitate the generation, audit and publishing of Demand Plans that support the extensive AWS product portfolio. As a SDE, you will collaborate with research scientists and business subject matter experts to build and maintain a scalable planning platform, along with innovative models, that is capable of handling billions of time series data in real time. Our tools span Scala, Java, Python, JavaScript, Lambda, DynamoDB, and other leading-edge AWS services and tools. We don’t expect you to be an expert in (or be familiar with) all of the technologies listed above, but we want you to be excited to learn about them!

This position involves on-call responsibilities. We don’t like getting paged outside business hours, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
