S&OP - Planning Program Manager, Transportation Planning & Execution
About the role
Amazon is looking for a smart, analytical, and driven individual who wants to tackle challenges requiring significant innovation to create best-in-class delivery experiences for our Customers.
We are seeking a Transportation Planning Program Manager to lead the weekly forecasting process for our transportation network across all miles (First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile). The candidate will own the end-to-end planning cycle — ensuring critical inputs such as FC Ship Plan, Units Per Box (UPB), and capacity constraints are incorporated into the transportation plan. This role includes leveraging existing planning tools, identifying gaps, writing requirements for new features, and partnering with tech and operations teams to develop local/tactical solutions that address Brazil's unique network characteristics.
This position is responsible for working alongside Fulfillment Operations, Sort Centers, Last Mile, and Middle Mile teams to ensure forecast accuracy across the transportation network, driving best practices, ensuring continuous improvement, and delivering programs that will have a fundamental impact on delivery speed, cost, and reliability.
This person will partner closely with FC Operations, Sort Centers, Delivery Stations, Last Mile, Middle Mile, Transportation Tech, and Finance teams.
The successful candidate will own the transportation forecasting process end-to-end, driving accuracy improvements that directly impact network cost and customer delivery experience.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Weekly Transportation Forecasting Process (All Miles)
Own the weekly volume forecasting cycle for First Mile (FC outbound), Middle Mile (sort centers, line-hauls), and Last Mile (delivery stations).
Ensure all critical inputs are incorporated into the plan: FC Ship Plan, Units Per Box (UPB), capacity constraints, peak calendar, and promotional events.
Validate forecast outputs against operational reality; identify and resolve gaps between plan and execution.
Produce weekly forecast accuracy reporting (WAPE, bias analysis) and drive root-cause deep dives on deviations.
Chair weekly Transportation Planning meetings with cross-functional stakeholders.
Leverage & Develop Planning Tools:
Leverage existing global planning tools and systems to generate baseline transportation forecasts.
Identify limitations of global tools in capturing Brazil-specific dynamics (e.g., double-date demand patterns, regional seasonality, infrastructure constraints).
Partner with Transportation Tech teams to write requirements and prioritize enhancements to planning systems.
Develop and maintain local/tactical tools (models, dashboards, automations) to incorporate BR-unique characteristics into the plan until scalable tech solutions are available.
Continuously improve forecasting methodologies, automating manual processes and simplifying workflows.
Manage Inputs & Cross-Functional Coordination:
Partner with FC Operations to validate Ship Plan assumptions and outbound volume projections.
Coordinate with Capacity Planning to incorporate fleet, route, and station capacity constraints into forecasts.
Align with Supply Chain team on promotional calendars and demand signals that impact transportation volumes.
Drive resolution of daily/weekly planning gaps by coordinating across FC, Sort Center, and Last Mile teams.
Key job responsibilities
This role will work closely with Last Mile, Middle Mile, Sort Center, and FC teams to implement process improvements and develop tools that improve transportation forecast accuracy across the network. A successful candidate will be highly analytical, resourceful, customer-focused, and comfortable working with ambiguity. They will have a proven track record in taking on end-to-end ownership and successfully delivering results in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment. In this position you will:
Lead the weekly transportation forecasting process across all miles (FM/MM/LM) at node-level and daily grain;
Ensure Ship Plan, UPB, and capacity constraints are reflected in the transportation plan each cycle;
Set up processes to improve forecast accuracy with the objective of minimizing cost and maximizing transportation productivity;
Develop queries and visualizations for ad-hoc requests and projects, as well as ongoing reporting;
Make existing processes scalable by identifying and implementing available tools/automation;
Deep dive and analyze key transportation performance metrics (WAPE, OTD, CPP, route density, backlog), identify gaps, and create plans to drive forecast deviation reductions;
Develop new metrics and performance indicators to evaluate and improve the efficiency of transportation planning;
Partner with tech teams to develop local/tactical planning solutions for Brazil-specific challenges;
Own day-to-day operations execution and implement quick actions to keep adhering to the plan;
Drive programs end-to-end: scoping, stakeholder alignment, milestone tracking, and delivery across multiple workstreams.
