We are currently seeking a Senior Content Acquisition Manager to join our Prime Video Japan licensing team. Working as an individual contributor, you will own the end-to-end workflow for the development and launch of Prime member-exclusive first-run content mainly for Japanese TV dramas and Japanese movies. You will lead negotiations with content producers, licensing sales persons of TV broadcasters/film production companies, and content stakeholders to accelerate our first run content strategy and develop exclusive entertainment content for Prime members.
This role offers the opportunity to establish and manage strong relationships with content providers while driving the execution of content acquisition strategies across a variety of business models, including flat fee licensing, pay for performance, and more. You will participate in all aspects of content development, negotiate deal terms, secure internal approvals, and execute contracts to deliver results for both our stakeholders and customers.

Key job responsibilities

Own end-to-end development and launch of Prime-exclusive first-run content, from initial negotiations through contract execution

Negotiate SVOD and TVOD licensing agreements with independent producers, distributors, TV networks, and film production companies across multiple business models

Build and maintain strategic relationships with content providers, serving as the primary point of contact

Leverage customer data and viewing patterns to inform acquisition decisions and identify emerging content opportunities

Secure creative asset approvals from licensors and coordinate with marketing teams for promotional activities

Partner cross-functionally with legal, finance, and marketing teams to execute content strategies

Conduct financial analysis and performance forecasting to support deal evaluation and business case development

Demonstrate ownership and bias for action when solving time-sensitive challenges

Identify and develop content with potential to improve customer experience in our video business

Project performance metrics for each content opportunity, including estimated new customer acquisition, viewing hours, and appropriate license costs

Negotiate with content holders (producers, film/TV production companies, artist agencies) to develop and acquire exclusive content

Create approval documentation to justify acquisition decisions and secure internal greenlight for each content deal

Draft contracts in collaboration with legal teams and finalize agreements with partners

Coordinate post-execution activities, including marketing meetings and launch planning with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth content launches
About the team
The Prime Video Japan Content Acquisition team drives both SVOD and transactional VOD strategies, curating diverse entertainment including movies, anime, TV dramas, Korean content, music, and sports. We're a collaborative, customer-obsessed team that combines data-driven decision-making with deep entertainment industry expertise. You'll work alongside content strategists and marketing professionals who share a passion for delivering exceptional viewing experiences to Japanese customers.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in content production or development for Japanese TV and/or film
- Strong analytical skills with experience using data to drive business decisions
- Experience managing complex projects end-to-end
- Experience negotiating and executing complex licensing or legal agreements
- Experience working in fast-paced, dynamic, or international environments
- Knowledge of SVOD content acquisition and licensing business fundamentals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Japanese (native-level or equivalent)
- Business-level fluency in English (spoken, written, and reading)
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience specifically in SVOD content licensing and acquisition for Japanese TV and/or film
- Deep knowledge of OTT landscape and digital video distribution technologies
- Established relationships with Japanese content producers, broadcasters, and production companies
- Experience managing or mentoring team members
