The Data Centre Community is looking for an extraordinary individual with proven and tested leadership and management skills as a leader in our data Centre operations organisation in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia as a Data Centre Operations Cluster Leader.

The Data Centre Operations Cluster Leader role is a senior manager position and is one of our most senior management roles in the data centre environment. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large organisation, managing department heads who own data centre facility infrastructure including the operational availability of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The pace, scale, and growth of Amazon’s data centre platform will challenge you. At this level, Amazon is unique in that we seek experienced senior leaders who have evolved to be highly strategic in their approach to managing their business unit, yet understand how to lead large teams by example who will not hesitate to roll up their sleeves when tactical needs dictate it.

The ideal candidate for this role will understand data centre IT infrastructure, data centre facilities infrastructure and understand how the two coexist.

• Key job responsibilities
• Lead and supervise a team of Data Centre Managers (3-9 area and front-line managers) and lead a team of data centre employees within Regional Data Centres.
• Drive safety culture and security initiatives across multiple data centre facilities
• Develop and implement operational strategies that align with AWS's global standards while addressing cluster requirements
• Oversee capacity planning, delivery, and growth strategies to meet customer demand
• Direct engineering operations across multiple data centres
• Manage complex multi-stakeholder coordination requirements with internal teams, vendors, and local authorities
• Champion inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives within the regional organization
• Implement sustainability programs and ensure environmental compliance across all facilities
• Oversee financial performance, budget planning, and cost optimization initiatives
• Drive continuous improvement in operational metrics, efficiency, and service delivery
• Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team
• Accountability for meeting and exceeding operational goals. Owning the performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data centre operations.
• Carry out managerial and leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures.

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of relevant management experience in datacenter operations, facility engineering operations, information technology critical environment facilities, advanced high volume manufacturing, datacenter build-outs and scaling, or similar experience
• Bachelor's degree or above in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science
• Experience leading large teams, with demonstrable ability to hire, develop, and manage high-performing technical teams
• NV1 security clearance, or willing to obtain NV1 security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• PMP certificate, or MBA in computer science, engineering, analytics, mathematics, statistics, IT or equivalent
• Experience managing and negotiating contracts and vendor relationships
• Experience in lean or six sigma methodologies for operational, process, and performance improvement projects including process mapping and process re-design
• Experience hiring and developing highly effective and diverse teams.
• 5+ years of data center or mission critical facilities (example: hospital, military facility, public safety facility, etc.) experience
• Experience in large-scale data center network implementations and support
• Experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, service operations, or related fields
• Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer or similar data centre certifications
