About the role
Amazon Japan seeks a dynamic, organized self-starter to join us as 財務・経営企画部長 / Japan Operations Senior Finance Manager at our Tokyo headquarters. This role will lead end-to-end financial planning, reporting, and analysis for Japan Operations. As a Senior Finance leader, you will own the story telling and providing insights for Japan Operations—driving cost optimization, accelerating growth, and championing process improvement through AI and technology. You will also lead and develop a broad finance organization, making talent acquisition, coaching, and team management critical responsibilities.
- Key job responsibilities
- Financial Consolidation & Executive Reporting — Consolidate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results across multiple business units. Present actionable insights and telling overall story to senior executives, the Japan leadership team, overseas headquarters, and other stakeholders.
- End-to-End Planning & Strategy — Oversee the full planning cycle for Japan Operations, spanning inbound, fulfillment center, and transportation businesses.
- Translate complex financial plans into clear, compelling narratives for senior leadership decision-making.
- Performance Monitoring & Operational Improvement — Track network performance through preparation and communication of weekly financial metrics to Japan leadership. Leverage data-driven insights to identify opportunities and drive continuous operational improvement.
- Technology, Automation & AI Adoption — Champion technology and automation initiatives across the finance function, including the implementation of new operational tools, automation frameworks, and Generative AI solutions to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Team Development & Leadership — Mentor and develop junior finance professionals, fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture that prioritizes knowledge-sharing, growth, and operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications
- 12+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience
- 3+ years of performing financial and ad hoc analysis using data reporting tools experience
- 10+ years of positions that require analysis and reporting financial results experience
- 8+ years of applying key financial performance indicators (KPIs) to analyses experience
- 8+ years of building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision-making experience
- 8+ years of creating process improvements with automation and analysis experience
- 7+ years of directly managing and leading a team of 10+ members experience
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of hiring, leading and developing teams experience
- 8+ years of participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results experience
- 8+ years of identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan experience
- 8+ years of mentoring junior finance and/or business team members experience
- 5+ years of working with senior staff (e.g. c-suite) experience
- MBA, or CPA
