Amazon Japan is seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to own and drive the selection strategy and science for JP Books across Kindle and Print Retail. In this high-visibility role, you will define the strategic framework for differentiated selection initiatives and develop the selection science roadmap that determines how we identify, measure, and capture opportunities across the entire Books business.

As a single-threaded leader, you will own the overarching selection strategy, define publisher acquisition priorities, and partner with cross-functional teams including Product, Category Management, and Supply Chain to make Amazon the destination for Japan’s most passionate book and manga fans. This role offers the opportunity to pioneer selection science capabilities in Japan while directly impacting customer acquisition and retention.

The ideal candidate is an analytical problem-solver who can effectively balance customer experience insights with publisher partnership development and business growth. You will be responsible for leading a complex cross-functional product strategy with substantial organizational impact and high-level senior leadership visibility. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to drive programs from conception through implementation at exceptional pace.

  • Key job responsibilities

  • Build and drive the selection strategy roadmap across JP Books, including product development, program goals, and multi-pillared differentiated selection products that serve millions of customers across Print and Digital formats.

  • Work as part of the Selection Product and Program team based in Japan while influencing partner teams in JP and worldwide to execute against the selection roadmap, managing diverse stakeholder groups toward common objectives across organizational boundaries.

  • Define and deliver analytics, metrics, and reporting for selection in collaboration with Business Intelligence teams; drive automation and productivity gains through Artificial Intelligence to scale selection monitoring, gap analysis, and performance tracking.

  • Establish benchmarking and research capabilities for monitoring selection opportunities and emerging trends across Japan's book and manga market, including competitor catalog analysis, customer purchasing behavior, and acquisition efficiency measurement.

  • Report on a regular cadence to senior leadership, including driving key strategic decisions on new business models from a selection CX and VX viewpoint.

A day in the life
You will operate at multiple levels, from strategic planning to tactical execution. Your day might include analyzing data to identify selection gaps, developing publisher approach plans to acquire strategic content, aligning with cross-functional teams on roadmap priorities, and presenting recommendations to senior leadership. You will work backwards from customer needs while driving cross-functional execution to keep selection at the center of JP Books' growth. The role offers opportunities to innovate with AI and machine learning, design incentive frameworks, and launch pilot programs that test new approaches, all while engaging with diverse teams and learning from colleagues worldwide.
