Job Description

As a Mainframe Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing critical mainframe applications (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS).
With six years of experience, you will be involved in application development, troubleshoot complex production issues, mentor team members, and ensure that all deliverables adhere to high-quality standards and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development: Analyse user requirements and translate them into technical design specifications (LLD/HLD).
Develop, code, and test complex online and batch applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS.

Production Support & Troubleshooting: Provide 24/7 on-call support and rapidly resolve critical production issues (Abends).
Analyze root causes (RCA) and implement permanent fixes.

Performance Optimization: Tune mainframe applications and DB2 queries for improved performance and reduced CPU cost.
Code Review & Quality: Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and integration testing, ensuring adherence to coding standards.
Migration/Modernization: Participate in or lead legacy modernization, system upgrades, or migration projects.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Experience: 4-6 years of IT industry experience, with a focus on Mainframe technology (COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS).
Languages: Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, and SQL. Basic knowledge on Zos connect will be good to have.
Database/Access Methods: Extensive experience with DB2 and VSAM.
Online/Batch: Proficiency in CICS transaction management and Batch JCL's.
Mainframe Tools: Hands-on experience with debugging and utilities tools such as File-AID, DFSORT, and RTC/RDz (Version Control).
Analytical Skills: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently in complex environments.
Soft Skills: Strong communication skills.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
