The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.

The Opportunity

You will play a critical role in supporting product quality and reliability by conducting in-depth failure investigations. You will perform both non-destructive and destructive analysis techniques on a variety of samples, addressing customer complaints, internal manufacturing issues, and engineering requests. This position requires hands-on operation of specialized FA equipment, meticulous documentation, and effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and contribute to continuous product and process improvement. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring the integrity and performance of our semiconductor devices.

What You Will Do

  • Perform non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques on samples as requested by customers, as part of investigations for customer complaints, STR (Service Trouble Report) or manufacturing failures.

  • Generate, review, and publish comprehensive failure analysis reports, detailing findings and conclusions.

  • Operate a variety of FA equipment, instruments, and tools, utilizing established failure analysis methodologies to characterize the physical properties and electrical performance of samples.

  • Execute chemical deprocessing techniques to expose internal device components for inspection and analysis.

  • Operate specific FA equipment and instruments including, but not limited to: optical microscopes, X-ray systems, Acoustic Microscopy (CSAM), Electron Microscopes (SEM/EDX), micro-sectioning tools, decapsulation equipment (laser, mechanical, chemical), electrical bench testing instruments, curve tracers, and multi-temperature testers, along with safe handling of fume hoods and chemicals, and polishing/parallel lapping tools, microprobers, and comparators.

  • Prepare samples for analysis, including lead rework, soldering/desoldering, and PCB and module extraction.

  • Interpret ATE (Automated Test Equipment) and bench test results at an intermediate level, correlating failure modes to customer complaints and other FA findings.

  • Interact effectively with Requestors, Quality, Applications, Test, and Product Engineers, as well as Design Engineers, to ensure a more effective and efficient FA investigation of customer returns.

  • Review and thoroughly understand customer complaints, and prepare detailed FA plans and resource requirements prior to commencing actual failure analysis.

  • Provide disposition for the next FA step for non-complex cases, guiding the investigation process.

What You Will Bring

  • Graduate of Electrical or Electronics Technology or equivalent courses.

  • Knowledge in operating electrical instruments and bench testing tools such as power supplies, multimeters, signal generators, oscilloscopes, and I/V curve trace testers.

  • Intermediate experience in Semiconductor Failure Analysis (non-destructive and destructive testing) is preferred.

  • Familiarity with the principles and operation of common FA tools including CSAM, X-ray, optical microscopes, SEM/EDX, fume hoods, and sectioning equipment.

  • Intermediate background knowledge of semiconductor electronics industry operations and processes, such as Assembly, IC fabrication, testing and validation, ATE datalog review, and adherence to chemical and laboratory safety procedures and quality systems.

  • Familiarity with concepts of fault isolation techniques, including Emission Microscopy and thermal analysis.
