About the role
Position Overview
The Service Deli Manager is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Service Deli Department, ensuring high-quality food production, excellent customer service, and strong financial performance. This role oversees prepared foods, service counters, and deli offerings while maintaining food safety standards and developing a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities Department Operations
- Oversee daily deli operations including hot foods, cold case, and service counters
- Ensure food quality, freshness, and proper product handling at all times
- Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked service areas
- Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and execution of promotions
Team Leadership & Development
- Hire, train, and develop deli associates and leads
- Create schedules to meet labor targets and business needs
- Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management
- Promote a positive, fast-paced, and customer-focused team culture
Customer Service
- Deliver exceptional customer service and product knowledge
- Ensure fast, friendly, and accurate service at all counters
- Handle customer requests, special orders, and concerns professionally
- Build customer loyalty through consistent quality and service
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Maintain proper food handling, storage, and temperature controls
- Ensure all associates follow food safety guidelines and certifications
- Prepare for and support inspections and audits
Inventory & Production Management
- Manage ordering, receiving, and inventory levels
- Control shrink, waste, and product loss
- Plan and execute production to meet sales demand
- Maintain proper rotation and minimize out-of-stocks
Financial Performance
- Drive department sales, margin, and profitability
- Manage labor, food costs, and operating expenses
- Analyze department performance and implement improvement plans
- Support overall store financial goals
Qualifications
- Previous deli, food service, or retail management experience preferred
- Strong leadership and team development skills
- Knowledge of food safety, preparation, and sanitation standards
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and food preparation
- Work in hot, cold, and refrigerated environments
- Flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
