Assistant Grocery Manager

POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Grocery Manager supports the Grocery Manager in overseeing daily grocery department operations to achieve sales, inventory, productivity, and customer service goals. This role assists with operational execution, associate leadership, merchandising, and inventory control while ensuring compliance with company policies and safety standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESDepartment Leadership & Associate Support

• Assist in leading, training, coaching, and developing grocery associates to meet performance and service expectations.
• Support daily supervision of associates, including task delegation and workflow prioritization.
• Reinforce accountability for attendance, safety, productivity, and policy compliance.
• Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management activities.

Operational Execution

• Assist with daily grocery operations including ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and backroom organization.
• Ensure shelves are stocked, merchandise is properly rotated, and out‑of‑stocks are minimized.
• Support execution of planograms, pricing accuracy, signage, and promotional programs.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized department and backroom areas.

Inventory & Financial Performance

• Assist with inventory management to support sales while minimizing shrink, damages, and out‑of‑stocks.
• Monitor department sales, shrink, labor, and key performance indicators; escalate issues and support action plans.
• Help control supplies and operating expenses to meet department financial goals.

Customer Experience

• Ensure a clean, well‑stocked, and customer‑ready grocery department.
• Assist in resolving customer questions and concerns promptly and professionally.
• Model excellent customer service behaviors and reinforce service standards with associates.

Compliance & Collaboration

• Ensure adherence to company policies, union agreements (where applicable), and safety standards.
• Partner with the Grocery Manager, Store Leadership, and other department managers to support storewide goals.
• Serve as acting Grocery Manager when assigned or in the manager’s absence.
