Role: Technical Project Leader – Scientific Computing
Number of positions: 1
Description
As a Project Leader, candidate will be responsible for leading Digital Capabilities, Project management for Scientific Computing. He/ She will need to follow the software development & operations processes by using dedicated tools and ensuring the on-time, quality delivery of software releases independently.
The successful candidate will establish team goals by understanding the business strategy, identify and evaluate business & technical trends and choose a course of action to achieve the same. He/she will accomplish the team results/performance by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, coaching and leading the team in the right direction.
Qualification & Experience
-
Engineering Graduate/Post-Graduate with 6–8 years of overall experience in developing, delivering, and managing enterprise IT solutions.
-
4+ years of hands-on experience in Linux Administration (RHEL, CentOS, or Debian/Ubuntu) including kernel tuning, LVM, and shell scripting (Bash).
-
Strong experience in managing Enterprise Storage solutions (NAS/SAN), including protocols like NFS, and Fibre Channel. Familiarity with Software-Defined Storage is a plus.
-
Parallel Filesystems: Familiarity with high-performance storage solutions like Lustre or GPFS.
-
3–4 years in software/tool development using Python (preferred for Linux automation), Java, or Fullstack technologies (Angular/React).
-
Deep exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps tools: Ansible, GitHub, Jenkins, and Sonar Qube.
-
Deep Hands-on experience with container technologies like Docker or Kubernetes or Apptainer or Open shift.
-
Workload Managers: Experience with schedulers like SLURM, PBS, or LSF used to manage compute capacity.
-
2–4 years in Project Management / Service Delivery / Release Management.
-
1–2 years of experience leading teams or managing subcontractors in a transnational environment.
-
ITIL certification is required; Waterfall, Agile/SAFe, or PO/PM certifications are highly preferred.
-
2–4 years of experience in business process analysis and software quality management.
-
Infrastructure & Security
-
Solid understanding of On-prem, Cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), and Hybrid infrastructure patterns.
-
Knowledge of Authentication & Encryption (LDAP, Kerberos, SSL/TLS, SSH) and Network security standards.
-
Experience with Performance Monitoring and troubleshooting tools for both OS and Storage layers including Splunk for centralized logging and analysis.
-
Experience with data classification, tagging, and metadata management for large-scale scientific or enterprise data sets to ensure proper data governance and security compliance.
-
A strong understanding of the Airbus IT landscape and internal standards is a significant advantage.

Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to shift between technical deep-dives and high-level stakeholder management.
-
Proven ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across different geographical regions.
Responsibilities:
-
Infrastructure Strategy & Technical Leadership: Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Linux ecosystem (RHEL/CentOS) and Enterprise Storage (SAN/NAS/Cloud Storage).
-
Lead the adaptation of legacy infrastructure into modern, scalable cloud or hybrid solutions, ensuring seamless data migration and system uptime.
-
Lead a team of developers and system engineers to execute project needs, fostering a culture of technical excellence and "first-time-right" delivery.
-
Provide both proactive and reactive operational support, including kernel patching, performance tuning, and storage capacity planning.
-
Manage logical volumes (LVM), filesystem integrity, and storage protocols (NFS, iSCSI, FC) to ensure high availability for business-critical applications.
-
Prepare and maintain rigorous documentation for configurations, installation procedures, and disaster recovery protocols.
-
Defines the Entry into Service guidelines and works along with Release Manager for the Define, set up and manage a project / programme structure to achieve the project / programme targets. He/she defines, uses and sustains resources, and supports team development with the appropriate competences, over the project lifecycle.

Prepare and maintain documentation describing configurations and procedures for performing installations. Maintaining the first-time-right approach is a must.

Organize workshops (Dev team / Business / Process Owner / Key users)

Manage Project Backlog (Functional / Non-Functional Requirements)

Manage Functional Support within agreed SLA / OLA

Establish suitable stakeholder networks and manage them effectively.

Manage and monitor partners & subcontractors. He/she manages contractual relationships (in partnership with Procurement) to successfully ensure the delivery on time, cost & quality with relevant partners. He/she ensures products are delivered meeting the expected business value.

Champion Software Quality Management principles in routine work.

Roadmap Management, Deployment Planning / Coordination & Regular Status Reporting

Create, maintain and review Process Documentation / Support
-
Provide proactive and reactive Operational Support

Identify, assess risks and opportunities in his/her area of duty. He/she identifies and prioritizes events that might negatively/positively affect the programme/ process/ function objectives and he/she categorizes them. He/she takes corrective and preventive actions accordingly.

Identify, tailor, optimize and apply relevant processes, methods and tools according to the type of programme/ project (size, context, complexity, etc.). This includes any agile methodologies (agile scrum or scaled agile: SAFE, scrum of scrum, etc.), and also the context of hybrid projects, where the successful integration of multiple work packages developed applying different methodologies is needed.

He/She must work closely with business partners and key contacts, including their business models & operations, addressing major challenges and the resulting expectations and needs.

Ability to adapt to changing environments and lead adaptation of old technology into new technologies.
